Can I have a gentle handhold?

MIL is unwell and alone and the ambulance that was coming has been diverted so DH has set off to her an hour away to get her to hospital if he gets there before an ambulance.
DD is out at an event 45 minutes away (in the other direction) and travelling back late with friend's family. She's 15 and autistic so this is a very big deal.
It's just me and my 10 year old here. I'm disabled and very anxious. I can just about manage but I'm feeling very teary about MIL, DH driving at night (he doesn't like it) and dd being out.
Can you just keep a virtual eye on me?

Glad he’s got there safely OP. Head back into the telly for an hour or so until DD is home.

RainbowToes · 13/11/2021 21:06

Here to keep you company OP.
Will put the kettle on for us.

I'm glad he's no longer driving!

The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance is on BBC1. It's really quite beautiful.

Have done my worst case plan and written down essentials for ds to take to kind neighbour if needed. He could stay with them happily.
Thank you for being nice about dd's freedom. She's got a lovely group of friends which is a huge amount of progress :)

Just adding to the handholds OP, sorry if it's getting a bit sweaty! Glad DH made it there safe, that's one worry off the list at least. Thinking of you and hoping MIL is ok x

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/11/2021 21:13

Paramedic is there too. DS is here to watch nostalgic kids telly Grin

A worry is a worry is a worry and yours sounds very valid right now.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/11/2021 21:27

@PastMyBestBeforeDate

I found ABBA on BBC2 :) Am v grateful for all handholds, no matter how sticky! Yes, you're right I would hear if things were wrong with dd. I could bundle ds into the car and drive there if need be. I have my new blue badge so I could park nearby.
Sounds like a good plan. (Also going to the nice neighbours)

I'm glad the paramedics are with MIL now, and I hope you're feeling better about everything.

We have watched a film I quite enjoyed (Free Guy on Disney+) and now we have some super hero thing on that is not my cup of tea At ALL so I'm lurking about - probably until your DD gets home at least.

DH just called and the paramedic has sorted things so MIL can stay at home tonight. They know the signs that need an ambulance immediately. DH is staying- I don't want him driving back again tonight anyway- so MIL won't be alone.
DS has been adorable so he's getting into bed and I'm just waiting for dd now. I might chance a glass of wine.
Thank you for seeing me through my initial worries!

That's good news.

I hope your DD is back in a bit having had a lovely evening.

HH here OP

TawnyPippit · 13/11/2021 22:59

That is good news re yr dd. Sounds like you’ve got this.

I know - experience - that things come up with crap timing but it sounds like you’ve got great foundations and resilience for unexpected problems - a switched-on DH, good friends who you can call on if you need to, sensible children. When your DD is home just take a moment to appreciate that.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/11/2021 23:15

I will Tawny :) And I'll tell them again how proud of them I am. Dd can roll her eyes at me being silly emotional mum Grin

Bloody brilliant! I'm so glad.
TawnyPippit · 13/11/2021 23:57

I’m so pleased to hear that. Smile. Like I said, you have a happy and resilient family - shit happens, we cant avoid that, but sounds like you’ve got some great foundations to deal with it.

TawnyPippit · 14/11/2021 00:16

And I hope your MIL does well

HeronLanyon · 14/11/2021 00:17

All sounds good op. Whew ! Hope mil is ok over weekend.
