Struggling to get flu spray for child - anyone else?

Hi all,

If this is the incorrect board to post on please let me know.

My children are all of school age so should receive the vaccine at school. It was originally booked for about a month ago then got cancelled due to a staff shortage. Fast forward to 2 weeks later and the teacher hadn’t been informed as to when the new date would be.

I called the GP and they said they had no idea and that they don’t have any spare and only enough for the children who aren’t school age.

My children have picked up god knows what week after week since starting back in September, so their immune system is already pretty shit. It does worry me what would happen if you caught the flu.

I was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?

A friend who lives a couple of hours away posted online that she tried to book the flu spray for her non school age child and was told they had run out!

Should have added it’s been about a month now of chasing and still no news!

We tried and failed to get appointments at the weekend Flu Clinics at our GP appointment, so ended up paying £15 for DC to have a jab in the chemist

It was possibly slightly more painful than the spray but DS didn’t cry, just said ‘oi, what did you do to my arm’ while watching an iPad..!

And got a chubba chupp from the counter display on the way out so seemed to get over it pretty quickly

For the sake of £15, I am happy we didn’t wait much longer because there have been so many bugs going around

@SW1amp thank you for your reply! I will try to get an appointment with the chemist. Although not very hopeful. I tried to book myself a flu jab and it got cancelled and I was never able to rebook Hmm I did pop into there a few days later and the chemist told me they had 50 doses but 100 people booked!

I read on a thread here that Boots have the best supply chain at getting doses, so maybe try them
But we ended up getting ours at a local independent, after calling on a couple of times to find out about availability

Good luck!

Our local hospital trust is running catch-up flu spray sessions, the school were given details by the vaccination team who then passed the details onto parents.

Your local trust could be running similar?

@madamecake thank you for the reply. I haven’t had anything like this but will certainly look into this. When I ask the school they tell me to speak to the GP and the GP tells me to speak to the school so I just feel like I’m being messed around!

Our GP sent a letter for my 2 year olds nasal spray but then when I called didn't have any doses.
Luckily she's had it now but it seems to be an ongoing issue as we can't even go to our normal surgery for my newborns next set of vaccinations!
