Is a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser worth the money?

I'm on the cusp of buying one but I wanted some opinions from real people, as you can't trust online reviews these days.

Is it really that amazing, or too good to be true?

Depends how much money you've got. I like mine and think it was worth it but I already knew that DD and I love hot chocolate and a relative wanted to buy me something nice for my birthday and it fitted the bill and their budget. Apparently there are good cheaper alternatives.

Dualit do the same product, just less pretty, for half the price - I think they make the velvetiser for Hotel Chocolat. We have the Dualit one, I use it a lot for the kids - I can warm milk without standing over it and it’s a good temperature for the kids to drink without getting scalded.

I got one last Christmas and have used it pretty much every day since.
I pre-heat the mug with boiling water as I like to drink it slowly. DD drinks hers in one go so doesn't need a pre-heat. We use the sachets for convenience.

If you like hot chocolate, yes. I bought DD one for Christmas last year and was worried it might be a fad but she uses it several times a week.

Yes they do make the velvitiser.

Meh they're okay, the hot choc doesn't get warm enough for me, and it's a bit annoying you can only make one cup at a time.

Ilovepearjuice · 13/11/2021 10:26

I would say that I drink hot chocolate once a week or so! DP doesn't like hot chocolate (crazy!) so it will be solely me that drinks it.

I use it to warm / froth the milk for a lovely latte too.

It turns even cheap hot choc much creamier, I don't use the HC sachets as they are extortionate I buy big packs of grated choc off amazon or eBay.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2021 10:43

I would buy the Dualit version as it also does cold drinks. The Velvetiser claims to do this but it only actually makes a hot drink that you then have to cool down.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 13/11/2021 10:45

There's an Aldi one that's apparently very good!

IroningBoardz · 13/11/2021 11:13

Can you use any hot chocolate powder in it or does it have to be Hotel Chocolat?

SoupDragon · 13/11/2021 11:22

Any powder works. Hot chocolate powder, Horlicks, Ovaltine... Biscoff spread, Nutella...

CouchWoes · 13/11/2021 11:24

Are there any that make more than 1 cup?

cherrypiepie · 13/11/2021 11:28

I got mine last Christmas from my mum And use it all the time except in summer.

I use it with the velvetiser chocolate by you can use cocoas, options instant hot chick, coffee, anything- it is quite versatile!

I often do an instant one in it as it mixes it through. Lots of reviews says it isn't hot enough but preheating the cup solved this for me and I like thing volcanic hot!

NalPolishRemover · 13/11/2021 11:39

Dd got one last Christmas & it's been used loads all year. We love the hotel chocolat sachets but during lockdown we make our own by grating aldi chocolate & it was nice too though our preference remains the hc ones
We love ours & have never regretted it

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/11/2021 11:58

DS loves his. OP, there was a thread in the Christmas topic about them recently, that one might be worth a read through too.

There are but I can't remember the brands. I looked at them a few weeks ago out of curiosity. The Dualit one is bigger but not twice the size of the Velvetiser.
mrsmoppp · 13/11/2021 13:19

I've also been looking at these but we already have a nespresso milk frother which I guess kinda does the same thing?
