As a complementary thread yo the Aldi one, please tell us about your favourite Lidl things.

Also, if you prefer Lidl or Aldi for particular things, e.g. veg, wine, meat, etc

@Igneococcus Not Lidl but last year Nescafe Gold did a Cinnamon Bun Latte powder. This year they have done Praline Latte

cromwell44 · 16/11/2021 00:07

Coffee pods (lungo), yellow label ground coffee (Columbian I think) and wine, wine, wine.

FrenchBoule · 16/11/2021 03:43

Christmas specials: pannetone,gingerbread and stolen.
Excellent chocolate.
Sliced cheese
Need to investigate frozen section at next visit.

On the bad side: milk always goes off before the date, bought chicken a couple of times that was smelly and their wine- out of 4 bottles (2 red and 2 white) 1 was excellent,1 acceptable and 2 undrinkable so they went down the sink.

Has anyone tried their Peanut Flips? They’re delicious. Fortunately they don’t have them in stock very often. I say fortunately because they come in an enormous bag and once I start I can’t stop

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 16/11/2021 12:13

Mulled wine

BleuJay · 16/11/2021 12:19

The black bin bags. Haven’t liked any of the food but the black bin bags 120l I think, are the biggest and strongest.

Here we can only put out three black bags a fortnight and these are so big and string we can fit 2/3 average size black bins inside one of these! They are fantastic!

Chocolate brownies from the bakery

ohfook · 16/11/2021 12:51

£1.50 left over veg boxes. You have to get there pretty sharp to get them from my local one but they're amazing. A huge box of veg that would otherwise be chucked and it's usually great value and helps me buy enough fruit to give my lot.

Igneococcus · 16/11/2021 15:19

That sounds interesting @MercyBooth, particularly the praline flavoured one. I'll have to look out for that.

It's worth checking out for their cheese selection before Christmas. I love the goat camembert they have at the moment and there is some French blue brie (Pave d'Affinois blue, or something like it) that is fab.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 16/11/2021 18:46

I just bought some lovely Christmas tea towels for £2.49 for two and they do tablecloths for £4.99. Also bought a silicon Christmas tree cake mould. Foodwise, their Greek yoghurt, almond milk chocolate, free range chickens, sea bass fillets, olives.

Bakery items - chocolate brownie, pastel de nata, pretzels, croissants, low gi boule bread. San Marzano tomatoes, chantanay carrots, bagged butterhead salad (when they have it, mainly summer), mince, sourdough pizzas, sliced garlic bread, authentic Greek yogurt (full fat). Deluxe orange juice, walnuts, frozen crisp’n’cake (like a choc ice), glasses wipes, paper napkins, sparkling water (about 27p a bottle). Loads really!

HeidiHaus · 16/11/2021 19:41

Their own brand Jaffa cakes are much nicer than the original
Choc digestives
The Florentines at Xmas are lovely
Pretty much all of the middle of Lidl Grin

MercyBooth · 16/11/2021 20:55

@Igneococcus It tastes a little bit like the green triangle from Quality Street.

Igneococcus · 17/11/2021 10:32

That's my favourite one of the Quality Street chocolates @MercyBooth I definitely have to look out for it. Smile

ColinTheKoala · 17/11/2021 10:36

Their Gold coffee.

Ice cream in much nicer than Aldi's

LimpLettice · 17/11/2021 11:25

Their brownies are the best ever
Coconut greek yoghurt
The chocolate wafer roll biscuits alpine week, also the alpine week florentines
West Country salt crystal butter
The filled lebkuchen hearts at Christmas are like crack, as are the cherry marzipan rounds
Coffee beans
Rhubarb and ginger gin
The amaretto mini ice cream tubs
Cheese pies in Greek week and the jamon croquettes in Spanish week are amazing
Flammekuche as well but seems to be so rare!
DSs are obsessed with the Christmas tree and snowman ice creams at the moment

hamsterchump · 17/11/2021 13:21

I get almost everything in Lidl.

Their fake Kettle chips 75p are nicer than real Kettle chips. I had to buy real Kettle chips recently as Lidl had ran out of my favourite cheese and onion ones and they were nowhere near as nice, I was shocked! Also their jam £1.10, (although I mourn the loss of blackcurrant, the new blueberry is very nice) and Italian ground coffee £1.10 are excellent. Their loo roll is great too. Their apple juice in the fridge £1 ish is as good as Copella. I really like their £2.99 wine, it tastes good to me but I'm easily pleased with wine.

hamsterchump · 17/11/2021 13:27

@Cissyandflora They had the rum and raisin ice cream in mine last week, they mix all the flavours of the premium together in the same freezer section so they might have been sold out or you might have to dig a bit to find one. I haven't actually tried this flavour but I like the mint choc chip and the vanilla, didn't like the strawberry however.

crackofdoom · 17/11/2021 13:31

Basically, the entirety of Greek week 😆

I would have said the Greek yogurt, but since cutting down on dairy can confirm the soya yogurt is pretty good too.

Deluxe fruit and nut muesli- it’s my DC’s staple diet.

Cepa Lebrel Rioja, especially the aged one.

Fresh figs, in season.

Coloured paper when the middle aisle has it.

Nuts and seeds.

crackofdoom · 17/11/2021 13:37

Oh yes, and of course- the annual self assembly Christmas gingerbread house! And the stollen. We made stollen last year- it wasn’t as good.

grannycake · 17/11/2021 13:56

The large jars of roasted peppers

RedWingBoots · 17/11/2021 15:38

@oohmama

For me it's the little kids trolleys

It's basically a day out for my 3 year old

I was there today and I forgot to get any brownie 😰😰 gutted

Oh yes my DD loves shopping a Lidl with a trolley much better than a wheelie basket.
Ataliecalm · 17/11/2021 16:08

Frozen strudel, only 85p and my kids love it.
