Toddler / baby teeth brushing tips!

Can anyone suggest any good tips for a 16 month old who's suddenly decided they don't like brushing their teeth anymore? Mouth gets clamped shut at teeth brushing time!

I looked up songs on YouTube but there were lots of very American bright cartoons but nothing particularly catchy and no characters my DC knows!

Thank you

I went through this stage a little while ago.

For that time I used to rub on some toothpaste with my finger then just give him the toothbrush to chew on.

Once the brush is in their mouth you can give it a little jiggle around now and then and slowly build up to proper brushing.

I think it helps with everyone brushing together so they start to copy and realise it's a daily thing.

I got an electric one with flashing lights on Amazon and that made all the difference. We now switch off the bathroom lights and have a teeth brushing disco

Get him to do things like roar, makea silly face etc
let him brush your teeth,
try taking turns to brush his teeth so he gets first go, then you, then him etc

It's just a phase, hell stop doing it - mine used to bite down on the brush at one point, most frustrating - ruined brushes, but hey ho.

Do they watch Hey Duggee? There's a song about brushing teeth on there. It's quite catchy, but I appreciate it's better received if the DC likes Duggee!

My 3yo still clamps his mouth shut sometimes, so I sympathise. His older sister just gets on with it and always has...

We had an aqua fresh app but usually retorted to a head between legs clamp.

You want catchy? Hey Duggee has catchy!

We got a flashing Peppa pig toothbrush when DD went through that phase. We also all do ours together and see who can do the biggest “ah” and the biggest “eee” and act really impressed at how wide DD can open her mouth (while quickly scrubbing inside!)

We tell them there is a fairy in their teeth and you catch them with the tooth brush. make a huge deal of catching it

If you face them while you do it and open your mouth they'll copy you without realising! Try it!
