Car insurance in 40s

Ilkleymoor · 12/11/2021 09:48

I've had my licence for 7 years but never bothered to get a car - a friend has just offered me their old car for a really good price but as I don't need a car at the moment, I was trying to work out if the costs are worth it.

Any ideas on how much car insurance would be a first time owner in their early 40s?

That is impossible for anyone to say.

Depends on so many things, type of car, engine size, where you live, where it is stored overnight, what you will be using it for etc etc

E.g mine was c£200 but I have got a tiny 1000cc car, have been driving since I was 19 and have a full no claims bonus.

Try putting the details into one of the comparison sites ad get a quote.

Just a thought though, why would you buy a car if you don't need one, what are you going to do with it?

Your best bet is going on a comparison site and getting an idea.

But with no driving experience or NCB expensive probably

I'm being lazy, she's in work and I need the reg for quotes.

It would be good for days out and we are moving next year to somewhere with less public transport but lovely countryside so it would be on the list to get one at some point.

Also getting to age where family bike ride and camping would be feasible. So basically not for everyday use but make the most of weekends and be outdoorsy.

You could go on Autotrader or similar, find a car for sale that is the same as your friend's, and use that reg no. It will give you an idea of the cost at least.

Good idea! Thanks

About 800 so if that's right it's lower than I thought. Would it mean enforced camping fun to make the most of it though?
