Wine recommendations please

I'd like to buy a bottle of wine for someone to say thank you for taking my son to football practice every week. I don't really know her very well. I don't drink but I know she does (my son has seen their wine fridge Grin). My budget is up to £10. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

What shops/supermarket do you have nearby?

OutOfSite · 12/11/2021 09:34

I regularly go to Sainsbury's and Tesco.

Do you have a branch of Majestic wine locally? They're very good at advising.

sunshinelover69 · 12/11/2021 11:24

Red or white? Which does she drink?

AnathemaPulsifer · 12/11/2021 11:24

Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc is lovely. I think they sell it in Sainsbury’s.

OutOfSite · 12/11/2021 11:36

There's a branch half an hour from me but don't really want to make a trip just to buy a bottle of wine.

Red or white, doesn't matter.

@AnathemaPulsifer thank you, I will take a look at the weekend.

Either Sainsburys or Tesco Finest Gavi are both very good. For red I would go with a decent rioja reserva.

languagelover96 · 12/11/2021 11:44

chardonnay

Softwonder · 12/11/2021 11:46

Villa Maria, Mud House, The Ned or Brancott Estate. All NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc which you can't really go wrong with. All in supermarkets and all about a tenner.

They are not everyones cup of tea, but the majority will like them. Some people are a bit more niche with their wine choices, but if these people have a wine fridge, chances are they will drink all 4 of the above wines pretty happily and it says that you, the giver, know what you're doing.

Campo Viejo Tempranillo Rioja or
Jam Shed Shiraz
Both red and rather lovely and around £8.

Palavah · 12/11/2021 11:50

I'd look in the supermarket for a wine that has been reduced by a few ££ to just at/under your budget!

Aldi and Lidl are excellent for wine and they have ratings

Snoods · 12/11/2021 11:52

Ned, Oyster Bay Sauv blanc if white .. reds.. maybe a Tempranillo reserve

Bunny2021 · 12/11/2021 15:07

I’d go for this white: www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/268665113

Or this red: www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/278363743

HelloCanYouHearMe · 12/11/2021 15:14

If you can stretch a few extra quid, id go for a bottle od Scancerre

NiceDayForA · 12/11/2021 15:20

Buy some Prosecco especially as it's getting close to Christmas.

Yeah, the Louis Jadot white is a really good shout.

OutOfSite · 13/11/2021 13:37

Thanks everyone. I went with the Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc.
