I think me and dh could do with doing something other than just watching TV every evening. What board games do you recommend?

Mr & Mrs. Smile
Monopoly

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/11/2021 20:29

Great plan! We love:
Jaipur (more of a card game but brilliant two player game).
Code names duet.
Ticket to ride London

CheeseMmmm · 11/11/2021 20:29

You mean like specifically for couples or just good ones?

We love a game of Scrabble. You were looking for something less common?

Backgammon is great if you both take to it.

KateTheEighth · 11/11/2021 20:37

Mastermind

Best game ever!

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/11/2021 20:37

Thought of some more.
Othello
Rummikub
Qwirkle

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/11/2021 20:38

Bananagrams

Tibtab · 11/11/2021 20:38

I like Odin’s Ravens, it’s a nice quick one for two peoplw

MrTulkingIsFeelingHorny · 11/11/2021 20:40

I used to play with my (then) boyfriend at university:

Card games (gin rummy, and others)
Chinese Chequers
Chess (boring)
Scrabble (my favourite)
Mastermind (second favourite)
Backgammon
Connect 4

I played all of these with my DC apart from boring chess.
Favourite with PFB is Mastermind.
Monopoly always causes someone to go off in a massive strop.
Scrabble causes them to come up with the filthiest words they can think of.
Still fun, though!

We have quite a collection of two player games (some can be played by more than 2). The ones that get the most use are...
Azul
Stone age
Wingspan
Codename duet
Hive
Unstable unicorns
Bananagrams
Ticket to ride

DentalWorries · 11/11/2021 20:45

We play connect 4 and the card game version of monopoly a lot. I also have to admit we practice Articulate by just testing each other with the cards so we always win when we play with friends Blush

FGSWhatNow · 11/11/2021 20:46

Duel (7 Wonders) is brilliant, it's the version of 7 Wonders that's specifically adapted for 2 players.

Burgerqueenbee · 11/11/2021 20:51

We enjoy Scrabble, Blokus, Hey that's my fish, and dead and breakfast.
I could do with more 2 player board games, although we like games that typically last under an hour and don't take a text book or a PhD to learn/understand the rules!

ImUninsultable · 11/11/2021 20:53

Robinson Crusoe. It's a collaborative game and it is the most fun. Love it.

bluebird3 · 11/11/2021 20:55

Ticket to Ride (longer game)
Timeline (shorter)
Blokus
Forbidden island
Pandemic (less fun these days 😅)
Yahtzee
Farkle

CrabbyCat · 11/11/2021 20:58

Castle Panic, you can play it as a collaborative game and I like the way that gets me and DH talking / working together. We have Forbidden Island and it is good but it's more complicated and takes longer to play.

We've also done jigsaws together if you fancy something other than games.

Waitwhat23 · 11/11/2021 21:01

221B Baker Street. A sort of Sherlock Holmes Cluedo. Can be played by more than two but works perfectly well as a 2 player game and has 75 (I think?) cases to solve.

Waitwhat23 · 11/11/2021 21:03

Exploding Kittens too.

ATrifleofFun · 11/11/2021 21:05

I really enjoy playing patchwork, lovely little game. And the Christmas version comes with a cookie cutter 😊

Hawse · 11/11/2021 21:11

Haven is a great 2 player game that me and my husband like.

LeroyJenkinssss · 11/11/2021 21:12

Depends on what sort of a couple you are. DH and I have discovered we can only play cooperative games because someone me always gets too competitive and doesn’t like losing.

So pandemic (but a bit on the nose lately), black stone fortress (excellent but hard to get hold of), Arkham horror and time legacy are our favourites.

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 11/11/2021 21:18

Scrabble and Monopoly and Backgammon

VienneseWhirligig · 11/11/2021 21:20

I have a number of board games for when me and DS go on holiday - he's 21 and loves a good board game. We have just spent a week away with Trivial Pursuit, the London transport game and the Game of Life.

househuntinginthesouth · 11/11/2021 23:23

Words games like Scrabble or Boggle.
Chess.
How about Uno? Dobble?
