My address is putting people off ??

I cannot get a cleaner. I’ve tried 12. TWELVE 🤦‍♀️

Each time from local fb page or personal recommendations from nearby friends.

Arrange it and they always cancel either when they know the address or literally at or just after the time they are meant to arrive. One said she suddenly was too busy no slots yet the following week advertising again.

My friends who recommended live in well kept houses. Where I live although not that far from them is extremely run down, everything looks messy sadly the streets the houses etc and I’m wondering is this why? I can’t get feedback as they won’t tell me what put them off but they literally (I think ) are turning up seeing the house/road and choosing to leave ?? I can’t see why iget so many cancellations at the expected arrival time

Agencies are so expensive but I think I may have to take that route as self employed and smaller businesses don’t want to work here 😞
I’m so desperate for help.

I think it's possible that they expect you to live in a similar type of place to your friends who's recommended them, and are taken aback when they discover you don't. Possibly prefer to work in a nicer area (as is their choice).

It's odd though if it's all twelve of them who did this. There must be another reason for some of them.

It might not be the type of area. It might just be that they can't fit you in because you're too far away from their other clients.

Is it a council or social housing area/estate? (or former)

If so, then yes.

safariboot · 10/11/2021 15:41

Is it a parking nightmare?

Are people creating a possibly intimidating atmosphere? Teens often hanging around? Flags or political symbols displayed in houses? Obvious signs of drug use? Beggars?

Is it a traveller site or near one?

zafferana · 10/11/2021 15:45

I think you know why OP. Even you describe your home as 'extremely run down, everything looks messy sadly the streets the houses etc'. TBH, I wouldn't want to even park my car on a street like the one you describe, in case the wheels were gone when I came back.

I’m sure it is the road but I didn’t want to believe people were that shallow. Especially when I’ve spoken on the phone to them and it’s all been friendly you think they’d at least come the once.

Our house isn’t the worst as we’ve made an effort to make sure it looks clean but I think the general area isn’t great and I can’t control things like when others fly tip or other things like that 😞

No traveller sites anywhere near, it’s a mix of private and housing association, parking is hard yes but most of the cleaners I spoke to mentioned they were getting public transport as some asked about bus routes And were we near the bus station

About half are HA properties . Does that really put people off ?

If they have plenty of work I guess they can afford to be picky. I would imagine they’ve decided your house might be more messy/ dirty so take longer

I’m wondering if next time I should send a few photos to ‘show’ the areas I need doing but also so they can see it’s not horrible inside !!!

How far from your friends are you? How often do you want cleaning done?

It could just be economies of scale. If you live near your friends in a similar house, they don’t have to travel far to get to you and already know how long it’ll take to clean… if you’re a bus ride away and it’s a smaller/different house, they’re wasting more time on travelling and won’t be as profitable…

But it might just be that they don’t feel safe on your street or wouldn’t want to wait for a bus there… sadly there’s not a massive amount you could do about that.

Do you have a local shop nearby that might have cleaners who already work in the area advertising for more work? Or a local Facebook page?
