Legal position on returns from store

I bought a dress from a posh (or at least, post for me store) on Regents street on a trip to London. It is faulty...it is a very heavy knit which has just stretched on the straps so that it is now indecent and about 3 inches longer than when I bought it. So not fit for purpose.

So - faulty. Entititled to a refund under Consumer RIghts Act. But on-line customer services say I have to return to a store as they cannot accept it online.

This, for me is a total pain in the arse and an expense. £30+ train ticket to return to the store as there are no stores closer than London. Dress was £70.

Do I have any rights to insist they take it back by post (even if I have to cover the cost of the postage). Any hints on how to get over this.

Am peed off as I loved the dress (before the stretching) - but liteally cannot wear it 3 wears in.
