I’ve sent an in year transfer request for my DC (reception age) which has been granted to change from her current school and start in the new school in January.

My question is can I unenroll my DC from the current school now and start at the new school straight away or will I have to unenroll at current school then put another application in and wait for that to be processed?

...any advice on starting at the new school ASAP would be greatly appreciated (they have a space).

Ring the school you want to move to and ask to start earlier?

In this scenario the current school will not take your DC off roll until a new school has confirmed he has joined them - safeguarding/children missing from education guidance.

What if they said DC could start earlier, what would I do then?

As in would I have to ask admissions for permission or send a form or something?

The new school will manage the whole process.

You've done your bit by doing an in year application and it being accepted.

Just ask the new school for a start date.

It might be polite to let the current school know, but you don't have to.

Thank you for the reply. On the offer letter that came through the door it mentions a January start, does this make a difference? Is it still discretionary in terms of the school?

The school can admit your DC whenever they want.

They may have said January for convenience or because there's a child leaving at Xmas, or some other reason. I would just ring and ask to speak to the admissions officer and explain you'd like DC to start asap.

Good luck
