Any Classical Civilisation A level teachers/students here?

I'm sorry, this is a bit random. But I'm at the end of my tether.
Does anyone know of any good online resources for A level Classical Civilisation (OCR). Especially how to structure literature essays in a way that differs from English Lit or history. Yr 12 DD is usually a high acheiving student, but is just at a complete loss. She's been told to Google, but there's so little online.

Place marking…have a dd who wants to do this!

This is a good guide, aimed at degree students but still relevant to A level students:

Gosh that seems remarkably unhelpful from the school. My DD is also doing Class Civ, but I'm not sure she's done much in the way of essays yet (although I don't really get told much about homework in case I chase her Grin). I wonder if she could try to look up model exam essays to get an idea of structure, exam boards should have them?

NotThatHomer · 08/11/2021 20:58

Thanks @Fashionablylate1999, I'll get her to have a look at that.
@EmmaStone She had an essay question returned as not being what the teacher wanted, was told at her ability she should know how to do it, but she doesn't. She's worried that she's falling further and further behind.

From the website there are some sample questions and mark schemes which might help a bit. www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/as-and-a-level/classical-civilisation-h008-h408-from-2017/assessment/

But she really needs to ask her teacher for help, making it clear where she is having difficulty.

NotThatHomer · 08/11/2021 21:30

Thanks, we've just found the paper that has sample answers, which might actually be useful. She'd only seen the unanswered sample papers last time she looked.
She's tried asking the teacher, the teacher is very hands off. DD doesn't need spoonfeeding, she seems to manage every other subject without issue. She's bitterly regretting choosing it.

Frankly I'd be asking to speak to the head of sixth form/ deputy head in charge of academic matters if a teacher was being that unhelpful. Believe it or not they are being paid to to teach and should be pulling their finger out and doing so. "Google it" is not teaching - or if it is then I could also be paid twenty odd thousand a year to say it......

FinallyHere · 08/11/2021 21:52

Is there any chance that the teacher has already covered this in lessons which your DD missed or did not pay attention to?

I can't imagine any other circumstances when it would be appropriate for a teacher to follow up that kind of feedback with a recommendation to 'Google'

NotThatHomer · 08/11/2021 22:30

DD is really conscientious, a worrier and suffers from anxiety, she won't have missed anything. I'm not happy with her school on a few fronts, but choices are limited here, we're not in England, I don't want to out ourselves. Parental involvement is frowned on at this age. I'm sitting on my hands, but may have to intervene. I'm glad people are saying this is not OK though, as I was beginning to doubt myself.
