Ebay: Is this a scam?

I put my max bid on an item of which there are 4 or more similar items by the same seller on ebay. And I noticed the item I bid on has risen a lot more than the other 3 similar items.

Eg, the other 3 items vary between approx £30 and £47. The item I bid on shot up to £117 in less than a day from about £28.
So feeling this was off I've withdrawn my bid and the item I was bidding on immediately went down to £53.
Has anyone had any experience of this?

Possibly a con yes. Sometimes people will ask a friend to bid to raise the price

Yes. It's called shill bidding. It's against Ebay rules, but I don't know how difficult it is to prove if you were to report it.
