WWYD by yourself on your birthday?

It’s my birthday at the end of the month and it happens to fall on a day I don’t work. I’m like to do something by myself but dithering as to what.

What would people do if you had 9am-4pm to yourselves on your birthday? It’s a Monday if that makes any difference.

Go to a museum / art gallery (might not be open on Monday though).

Go swimming

Go for a cycle ride to a National Trust property for tea and cake

Cinema, although may not be an early enough showing.

PlugUgly1980 · 08/11/2021 10:59

Go for a long run!

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 08/11/2021 11:00

Cinema, and depending on the timing of that I'd go for a nice brunch or late lunch with a book or magazine.

Beauty treatment of some kind possibly if that's your thing.

Crepuscularshadows · 08/11/2021 11:01

Brunch - proper full on pancakes and bacon effort with a newspaper and infinite coffee.

Walk through city centre to visit national gallery in peace.

Then catch first showing in cinema, gorging on sweet popcorn.

Home via Waitrose to pick up something for dinner and cake so I don't have to make it.

Spa for a swim, followed by mani, pedi (snack and coffee while work being done on the feet), mosey round a book shop, take the book to nice lunch/afternoon tea. Cabs all day so I could drink moderately at lunch.

KurtWilde · 08/11/2021 11:03

I'd start off with coffee and breakfast at my favourite cafe, then wander unhindered round my favourite shops, stop for lunch somewhere and take my time with it, then finish off with cinema.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 08/11/2021 11:04

Go out for sure. If I had the money, I'd have a long weekend trip. If I didn't, just potter about town, breakfast out, etc.

My birthday is coming up shortly, I live alone and I will be playing in an online national bridge tournament. My bridge partner will be online 20 miles away.
My DDs have moved my birthday celebrations to the day before. Which is a bit difficult as that’s the 30th anniversary of DH’s death. I am glad of the distraction, but will struggle to be suitably cheery.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 08/11/2021 11:10

I would go for a nice brunch then a mooch about some book shops

Foghead · 08/11/2021 11:13

My last birthday was like this. I went for a bike ride then bought some nice food for lunch, watched a film while eating lunch and just relaxed.
Had a takeaway with the family in the evening.

MintyGreenDream · 08/11/2021 11:14

I knowing cliche but ive always wanted to do a spa day alone

GlumyGloomer · 08/11/2021 11:17

If I had the money I'd go shopping for some new boots, get myself a nice lunch, with decadent dessert/cake and coffee, then go to the cinema.

actiongirl1978 · 08/11/2021 11:17

I get the dogs looked after elsewhere and lie on the bed in a totally quiet house and read my book.

Danikm151 · 08/11/2021 11:23

I went and got a manicure for my birthday 🙂

MinnieMountain · 08/11/2021 12:26

Thank you everyone.

I really like the idea of brunch. I think I’ll do my usual swim first. And maybe pudding in front of a film at home.

A massive hike in the lake district followed by a pub lunch

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 08/11/2021 16:40

Pub with a very good book and get slightly tipsy. Although if you've plans after 4pm then that may not suit.

My next option would probably be Cooked brekkie somewhere then cinema

ChatterMonkey · 08/11/2021 16:43

On a midweek birthday where i was off work ive had a massage and then gone for a few cocktails with a magazine, a browse round the shops and then home.

But all depends on your likes/dislikes, the above would be a lovely day for some (me included!) Or would be an awful day 😂
