This is mid-age me - what job to pursue?

I am in crisis in many areas of my life and have decided to sort them one by one.

First task - work! I have hated home working - I am intensely lonely and its making me utterly miserable. My work are not going back to the office ever really.

So I need a new job. I am thinking of a different direction, I am fed up of office work in front of a computer all day.
So, I am interested in human behaviour, people, people's stories and lives, children's development, children's play. I have lived through a lot of turmoil so am also interested in people in stressful periods of their lives and how to cope..
I like to think of ways to improve things and am interested in using research and evidence.
The job has to involve regular contact with other human beings!
What jobs would people suggest? I can probably retrain. Not a teacher, I would be rubbish at it and hate it.
A job with a public sector pension would be ideal! Though I would also possibly consider being self-employed - so I guess open to all thinking.
Any suggestions for me to pursue, and how to pursue it?

Shamelessly posting to follow!

Have you looked at SaLT and OT?

Helpsortmylife · 08/11/2021 10:16

Thanks, presumably those are whole degrees? I am not sure an entire degree is something I could do.

Have you got a degree already? If so there are conversion courses.

If not yes they are 3 year degrees. I can't make fulltime work around my kids but I wish I could!

Perhaps you’d like to look at some of the threads on the new-ish ‘Mature Study and Retraining’ board?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mature_students

Might help you get a general view of the routes towards the sort of job you think you’d like.

As you already have a degree you may also need to know about Government Postgraduate Loans

www.gov.uk/funding-for-postgraduate-study

which are available for almost all subjects. Non-means-tested - only eligibility criterion is possession of a first degree.

Thanks - that's really helpful. I 'll have a look at that!
