Ideas for day trips (London/south east) for between christmas and new year

We love Christmas but have no family to visit so find the days between Christmas and New Year really boring. Looking to fill them with day trips instead. We'll have a day at one of the museums - Science Museum probably, but any other suggestions for days out in London and south east when it is cold. Ideally ones that won't break the bank - thinking of London Eye and Aquarium but £££££.

In Kent there's Hever Castle, Leeds Castle, Bedgebury Pinetum. Most have Christmas events on over that period.
I found the London Aquarium really overpriced and disappointing.

Tenterden steam railway to Bodium castle. Also as @LuckyLucyLoot mentioned, Leeds castle is a great day out

Chatham Dockyard
Chislehurst Caves
Hornby Visitor Centre
Colchester Castle combined with Colchester leisure centre (has a couple of flumes)

The Sky Garden is free and has great views- you have to book a slot. You could walk from there to the Tate Modern , again free but book a slot, the exhibition in the Turbine Hall is great. Lots of places to eat and things to see along the South Bank. Take the Thames Clipper to Greenwich-Maritime Museum free and there is an ice rink .

Leeds castle is lovely at Christmas (in kent)
Rochester Christmas market is nearby too

Ice skating in Greenwich? There's others too, like Bluewater

Following for ideas as we’re in the same boat. Always think it’ll be “fine” hanging out st home, but by Dec 30, we’re climbing the walls, yet paralysed with indecision over what to doooooo 🙄😩

Winter wonderland? Expensive if you do everything, but there's plenty enough to see and do without spending a lot

Love the aquarium, go on a Monday and it’s 50%off food at Slug and Lettuce, a nice cheap lunch literally next to the eye
