Extension - start in April or February - is there much difference?

We were thinking of starting work on our extension in February. A friend of the family, retired from working in the construction industry, said we'd be better off waiting until April because of the weather. He talked about the frost affecting cement setting and that the workers were inclined to work better in the spring months. We would ideally like to start in February - our builder said that there's no problem starting then. I just wondered if there was much difference? Thanks.

I've never had this situation but , to have the whole house exposed to the elements ( and February can be brutal) seems like a bad move.

We started in february and it was fine. The builders compled all the outside work and shell first and didn't knock through until May. They ended up not completing everything until November so I would recommend starting as soon as you can.

We started in February. It was put off for a week as they day it was due to start had 8" of snow. It was freezing when they were plastering and were walking through the house with buckets of plaster.
But it was done by the summer and the garden was ours again.
