My mil sadly passed away this morning, does anyone know if compassionate leave extends to inlaws ?

I think it depends on company policy. My brother had to use annual leave for the funeral of our auntie because he worked at a shitty place where the policy was immediate family only.

I work in the NHS and approved compassionate leave for someones FIL. I didn't check the policy... I assume its covered though.

Sorry for your loss xxx

Thank you, think I'll not go in tomorrow and be with my husband and start sorting funeral etc , she was 92 and had a severe stroke about 2 months ago , its a blessing as she was in a bad way. I have holiday booked from work anyway from Thursday to next Wednesday so will only be taking 3 days

My employer allows a paid compassionate day for the funeral only. If it was immediate family then I would get upto a week paid.
When my MIL passed away I took a couple of days unpaid to support DH.

Not normally no. My DH didn't even get compassionate leave for his sister passing away.

Most big companies I’ve worked for it’s only been paid leave for spouses, parents, siblings and children.

Sadly wouldn’t extend to in laws, so would have to be annual or unpaid.
