If you were ordering in pizzas for 11 children…

How many would you order?
They are 10 years old, I’m ordering large pizzas from Pizza Hut, I’m currently thinking of ordering 6 large pizzas, 4 margerita and 2 pepperoni… also 3 boxes of chicken strips and 2 boxes of wedges. There is nothing else (other than cake afterwards!).
Do you think that’s enough? Ds would usually eat maybe 3 slices and I think each large is 8 slices… (it’s maybe 10, I can’t remember!)

Over order and freeze leftovers if they are on a decent offer.

SparrowNest · 07/11/2021 10:27

I’d probably get 4, that’s averaging very almost 3 slices a child which seems about right. Seems overwhelmingly likely one child will only want 2, which means 3 for the other 10.

I agree with a past poster that I’d just buy wedges and chicken strippers from a supermarket and bung them in the oven. Way cheaper, and you can do a whole bag of the wedges if you’re worried about them being hungry still. The side portions are pretty small.

KurtWilde · 07/11/2021 10:29

When DD11 has a friend to sleep over I buy one large and some sides, they easily polish off 4 slices each plus sides. Average sized girls.

Chillyjellytotty · 07/11/2021 10:29

I would do as @MrsFoxyplease suggests and do my own chicken nuggets and wedges, then order 6 pizzas. My son (10) will eat 5/6 slices of pizza, but one of his friends will eat 2. It’s tricky as some are no where near puberty, and others are. But left over pizza is the best, as everyone is saying better to have to much than to little

WellTidy · 07/11/2021 10:36

The large pizzas from Pizza Hut are huge. I cannot imagine a 10 year old eating half of one at any point, even without any extras like sides or cake. You’re going to have loads left over (which I probably would do too, as I always fear under catering).

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/11/2021 10:44

Is go for 6 but then my 10 and 8 year old can eat loads of pizza not 2 slices each in this house! They don't eat sides though. I think I'd order more wedges just in case though

Ohsofedupwiththis · 07/11/2021 10:47

My 10 year old would probably manage about 3 slices. Maybe less if she is eating other stuff.

My 7 year old, maybe 4 or 5 if he was in the mood to eat.

I would say 5 pizzas plus sides and there will be loads left over.

Oblomov21 · 07/11/2021 10:51

It's always better to have a couple of slices left over, than to under order and then wished you'd ordered more.

MintyGreenDream · 07/11/2021 11:04

I'd do 2 margarita,1 chicken,1 veg,2 pepperoni

mrsm43s · 07/11/2021 11:08

I'd cater half a pizza per person, so 6 would be right.

I'd be hoping for leftovers to feed the rest of the family or for the next day as well.

I personally wouldn't bother with Pizza Hut sides, as I don't rate them very much. I'd either do some nuggets/wedges myself, or more likely just buy crisps/popcorn etc as snacks for the kids to graze on throughout the evening (plus a few bottles of pop).

holidaynearlyover · 07/11/2021 11:11

@zafferana

A Pizza Hut large pizza serves 4 children according to Google. I'd expect a 10-year-old to eat 2 slices, so that sounds right as all Pizza Hut pizzas are 8 slices.
I don't think that's normal to be honest. Mine at 10 would have at least 3. I think serving sizes are always smaller so the calories don't look so bad 🤣.

I'd order 5 with the sides or 6 without

MrsTWH · 07/11/2021 11:14

I’d be worried about under-catering, plus we love leftover pizza here so I’d order 7 Grin
Plus when I’ve done this for my kids parties, you always get some that grab loads and take one bite out of everything and then leave it all… in my experience I’d order/cook more chicken dippers as they’re very popular.

holidaynearlyover · 07/11/2021 11:15

@AlexaShutUp I took my daughter and friends into Pizza Hut. We did a large pizza between two plus 4 sides of garlic bread and they all had a dessert. The children were 12 and I managed to get two slices of leftovers as it all went. They all had salad bowls too!

Fair enough. My dd isn't a big eater and even at 16 would rarely eat more than 2 big slices, maybe 3 on a really hungry day. I'm really greedy and quite overweight, and could probably manage 4 slices though I'd be happy with 3. I'm amazed at all these 10yo kids who could apparently eat 5 slices plus sides, but clearly there are lots of them, so I stand corrected.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 07/11/2021 11:22

I'd knock off one of the pizzas and replace with some garlic bread.

I think kids on a sleepover is different, a bit more grazing and sometimes going back to the pizza a bit later. Lunch though, I just don't think 10 year olds would eat that much. I would go for 5/6 pizzas (if I deliberately wanted some extra), and put out maybe 3/4 to start with and see how it goes. Whole pizzas left over are great, 25 half eaten slices not so much.

Would be interested if OP reports back afterwards.

KurtWilde · 07/11/2021 11:43

@LarkspurLane oh definitely, they graze over the course of the evening. But they ate roughly the same on her 11th birthday maybe 3 or 4 each. I just always like to over-cater a bit in case some of the kids have a bigger appetite and I'm a big fan of leftovers Grin

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 07/11/2021 11:45

We did the same a few years ago. I thought 1/2 a pizza per person (v. big pizzas) to make absolutely sure there was enough. In reality the kids averaged 1/4 pizza per person and we ate pizza for days. I'd go for 5 if I were you. Not sure I'd get 2 pepperoni as I don't think many kids like them - I only know 2 kids who do. My experience might be different to others though. Personally I'd stick with a safer 'ham' option.

SirGawain · 07/11/2021 11:51

On a recent thread the OP was being slated for taking her child to MacDonald's. On Mumsnet lots of posts involve ordering pizza deliveries. Pizza is no better nutritionally, (and probably worse), than MacDonald's. Despite this ordering pizza is encouraged whilst a parent in MacDonald's is the devil incarnate. Only possible in the Mumsnet parallel universe!

MrsPear · 07/11/2021 11:53

I had 6 for pizza party for ds1 - he turned 12 and the rest were 11 bar 1 (ds2) who was 8.
I had 2x cheese 1 x veggie supreme in large which i ordered from dominos with discount code. Then I cooked 2 bags of potato wedges (Tesco), bag of chicken dippers, 3 x spicy filets (Tesco) and 2 x garlic bread (Tesco) plus veggies. More than enough food.

It’s not an age where you have to hover so you can excuse yourself and cook - plus a parent hovering is so embarrassing.

Drinks - coke, lemonade and water.

BessieFinknottle · 07/11/2021 11:53

Do all the kids like pizza?
I know a few who won't touch it so I'd have extra chicken and wedges to be safe.

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 11:54

Oh yes they’re just here for lunch! There’s a party activity come and set up for them (they’re all playing in it now) and the pizzas are being delivered in a bit.
I went with 6 pizzas for the 11 of them plus a random assortment of sides. I’ll put 4 out first and see how they get on, ideally it will all get eaten as none of us are keen on leftover pizza and I definitely can’t get on board with COLD pizza 🤢😂
Plus we’ve got a nice roast for dinner.
However if there are leftovers I’d rather that they were in a box that hadn’t been pawed over by ravenous 10 year olds Grin

If that's the thread I'm thinking of, the mum was only being slated for taking her dc to Macdonalds because she was being a total hypocrite and complaining about her ex doing the same thing! So not really comparable, unless you're talking about a different thread.
TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 11:55

I will update you as to how much is left later on.
Dh is now helpfully piping up that he thinks I may have over ordered Grin he’s good like that Confused
