If you were ordering in pizzas for 11 children…

How many would you order?
They are 10 years old, I’m ordering large pizzas from Pizza Hut, I’m currently thinking of ordering 6 large pizzas, 4 margerita and 2 pepperoni… also 3 boxes of chicken strips and 2 boxes of wedges. There is nothing else (other than cake afterwards!).
Do you think that’s enough? Ds would usually eat maybe 3 slices and I think each large is 8 slices… (it’s maybe 10, I can’t remember!)

I'm sure PH offer a 50% off discount over £40.

I'd always over order and then you can keep any leftovers (or offer it out to the kids / parents at the end)

LadyCatStark · 07/11/2021 09:13

I’d get one less pizza and 2 more boxes of wedges although I’d actually get 6 pizzas still so there was some for my breakfast 😂.

fluffythedragonslayer · 07/11/2021 09:15

6 sounds right. Leftover pizza the next day is awesome anyway. When we order pizza we get 3 large between the 5 of us (3 adults 2 children) and there's rarely any left 😁

Etonmessisyum · 07/11/2021 09:15

6 is enough but I’d just buy a massive bag of chicken nuggets and chips for them along with the pizzas. Maybe get an extra pizza with what you save, Pizza Hut a usually has some fab deals so hopefully you’ll get a good price.

I now want Pizza Hut

WholeClassKeptIn · 07/11/2021 09:18

Does 1 box of wedges do 5 people? We order from papa johns and wedges might do 2 people but not 5!

At kids parties we've done we've bargained on half a pizza each and had a few slices over for us. Who has kids that only eat 2 slices!?

I like the idea of a ton of chicken nuggests and chips at home. You really don't want ro be offering say 1 chicken strip each and 1 wedge.

AlexaShutUp · 07/11/2021 09:18

Pizza hut large pizzas are massive, they have ten slices. I very much doubt that many ten year olds could eat half of a huge pizza. I think 6 will result in a lot of leftovers.

Personally, I'd expect kids of that age to eat around 2/3 slices each. So that would be 33 slices if you went for 3. 4 large pizzas would give you 40 slices, which would allow for those with slightly bigger appetites. 5 would allow an even bigger surplus if you're worried about running out (4/5 slices each). 6 just seems too much, especially with side orders as well.

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 09:19

I’ll go for 6 and up the wedges. There are 4 other people that live here so someone will eat some of the leftovers I’m sure!
I cba to do any oven to freezer type things which is why I’m ordering, it’s been 2 full days of hosting and exciting activities so this is the one last push of birthday fun, I’m ordering in Grin

I'd get 6, you can freeze any pizza that is leftover and it defrosts perfectly in 10 mins in a 200c oven. Kids always eat less at parties then they do at a normal meal, DS2 can eat a whole medium on his own at home, but at a party tea will have 3 bites of 1 piece of pizza and is off again running around screaming with his friends.

BananaPB · 07/11/2021 09:20

I have teen boys and they would struggle to eat half a large pizza (and that's before sides) 1 large pizza with sides between 3/4 is plenty imo and definitely use discount codes

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 09:21

I don’t know how many the wedges serves, ds doesn’t eat them and we don’t really order pizza in as we have a lovely pizza oven built into our garden but again, we cba to do it today! They make the absolute best pizzas.

That should certain be enough. I might have bought or ordered some ice cream for them as well for dessert.

Smartiepants79 · 07/11/2021 09:21

@zafferana

A Pizza Hut large pizza serves 4 children according to Google. I'd expect a 10-year-old to eat 2 slices, so that sounds right as all Pizza Hut pizzas are 8 slices.
2 slices! Ha! Recently did similar with a bunch of 11 year old girls. They all easily ate 4 slices plus some sides. They were all average sized children. Get more than you think (if you can afford it) and eat it as leftovers. Not enough food always looks a bit rubbish.
KurtWilde · 07/11/2021 09:22

I'd say 6. If there's too much then you've got leftovers. Better than not having enough!

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 09:22

And I’m not mixing up the toppings any more, 2 choices is adequate. The last time I booked a party there were 2 pizza choices, pepperoni and margarita.

@Hobnobswantshernameback

Cold pizza the next day is the food of the gods But this is Mumsnet where people will claim that their little Tarquin would be stuffed after smelling the pizza and would prefer some hummus and carrot sticks
Or people would go the other way and say that they can eat a large pizza plus sides each and anything less than a whole pizza each is miserably mean.

Sounds about right to me so there's plenty of food to be just on the generous side but you'll have a bit for leftovers which will be fine the next day, but are you sure about only getting margarita and pepperoni? Plain cheese is a bit boring if you don't like or don't eat pepperoni. What about a mixed vegetable one too?

AlexaShutUp · 07/11/2021 09:29

@BananaPB

Exactly. One large pizza is plenty for me, DH and our 16yo dd, and I'm quite greedy!Grin I really don't think many 10yos could eat more than we could!

I wonder if some people maybe don't realise how large the large pizzas actually are. 2/3 slices might not sound much, but it's actually quite a lot!!

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2021 09:46

Yes @BarbaraofSeville I’m definitely sticking to the 2 choices. It’ll be fine, if they don’t eat much because it’s boring they’ll still get fed some dinner in the evening with their families, and they will have had breakfast this morning, it’s not the end of the world and I’m not about to go down the route of more options!! It’s being kept simple Smile

I think this is adequate and there might be a little left over. You'd rather they were looking at it than looking for it!

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/11/2021 09:49

I'd go for 6. Two plain, to pepperoni (if you know people like it) and two others.

BitterTits · 07/11/2021 09:52

Get more wedges. Domino's boxes are tiny, don't know about PH.

Newpuppymummy · 07/11/2021 09:55

I would order six. I’d probably order fries rather than the chicken strips

HeartsAndClubs · 07/11/2021 10:00

I’d get 6. But I’d order garlic bread rather than chicken strips although you’d need to order more of it.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 07/11/2021 10:02

Takeaway pizza has been the party food of choice for my DC for a few years. Because in our circles it's a rare treat, I find that DC eat far more than at a buffet type party tea. I am well known for over catering, but the first time we did pizza delivery there were no leftovers (which I had been planning to eat cold with a beer later). I reckon your estimate is about right - probably over generous but good to have a buffer. IME they only want Margherita or pepperoni, so allowing for vegetarians/halal your order sounds perfect.

BobCarversPatties · 07/11/2021 10:04

At DS3's tenth birthday we got them a £5.99 medium domino's pizza each and there was two or three slices and a couple of crusts left.

Goldbar · 07/11/2021 10:17

I would over-order on what you think you need, then the rest can just be eaten by other people in your house/as leftovers.

Kids are quite motivated to eat pizza as opposed to other food, so I wouldn't find it surprising if a few of them can put away half a pizza.

I'd probably go for 6/7 pizzas and some sides.
