What shoes do you wear for work? I've been seconded to ICU for the next 4 months because of staffing and I usually work in theatres so my shoes are provided for me (clogs, so sexy) but now I need actual shoes for 3 13 hour shifts a day. I'm an ODP so can actually take a patient and I have worked in icu previously but I wore crocs with holes in then and they are 'banned' in my trust.

Please help me. I don't have a budget because i need to be comfy with how much I'll be standing and walking, I have really high arches so need support.

If you have success with holey Crocs, I suggest the un-holey Mercy Work Crocs. A bit sweaty but not too bad, and have seen me through three years and going strong.

Timmymagical · 07/11/2021 07:11

Yes I have crocs too, and you can easily wash them in the sink at the end of a hot sweaty long day! Good luck! It's hard being redeployed.

Can you take your theatre clogs with you? If not can you wear trainers, tofflen do work trainers that are wipeable? Or clarks softwear or Dr Martens could be another alternative. Good luck, stay safe and look after yourself.

I have had skechers for work. I did try on a pair of kicker shoes and they had a thick sole I didn't end up buying then though.

I had sooo many pairs of these during my 10 year nursing career. They're comfy and supportive.

Clarks from the unstructured range - only thing I can wear with my collapsed arch. Ugly but they work

crocsonmyfeet · 07/11/2021 07:53

Crocs, professional I think, the ones with vents in the sides but no holes in the top.

So much more comfortable than any other shoes. The days of matron telling you off for what shoes you wear seem to be long gone thankfully!

Another vote for sketchers here

Greybeardy · 07/11/2021 07:55

I wear my toffeln theatre clogs (anaesthetist).

Calicoqueen · 07/11/2021 07:55

I use skechers Grin

DukkaDukka · 07/11/2021 07:59

I wear Skechers.

supercalifragilistic123 · 07/11/2021 08:02

I like the fitflop full shoe clogs. Although don't skimp and make sure you get leather. The cheaper pvc ones are sweaty.

Whatever you choose, don't forget your NHS discount!

GoodnightGrandma · 07/11/2021 08:04

Clarks. The more ugly they are, the comfier they are.

Muchmorethan · 07/11/2021 08:06

I wear trainers (recovery nurse) that are provided

RAFHercules · 07/11/2021 08:09

Ecco, my current pair are 8 years old and still look new. Not cheap but so worth it.
I can't wear skechers, each time I have tried I've ended up with plantar fasciitis.

Me too. I work in ICU.
flashpaper · 07/11/2021 08:20

I have Tuffeln clogs, like crocs but without the holes in the top. They were provided by my trust and I used them when I was working in ITU (also an ODP!). You can buy them on Amazon and, if your feet are the right size, get them really cheap.

tocas · 07/11/2021 08:22

Toffeln clogs - so comfy

BuddhaAtSea · 07/11/2021 08:28

Crocs with vents, I also have insoles. Because I just wash them all the time, and bleach them daily.
If you want shoes, I recommend Ecco, seriously comfy, but you can’t exactly soak them in a bowl with bleach.
Good luck in ICU :)

Goldi321 · 07/11/2021 08:32

Sketchers memory foam trainers- like walking on a cloud! Clogs get too sweaty for me and I find them really uncomfortable.
My sketchers have got me through 13 hour medical on calls doing 15,000+ steps a day.

anxiouswaiting · 07/11/2021 08:36

Clarks unloops are magical shoes!

Bought a pair as a student and they lasted me 3 years of placement while also working as a hca.

Replaced them when I qualified almost 5 years ago. I also have a stash of them because they were in a sale at less than half price and I love them so much I want to make sure I have some in case they discontinue!

HappyHippoWhatAMess · 07/11/2021 08:45

I have the Birkenstock professional clogs. The outer is fully washable and the inner cork bed can be replaced. I find them a bit heavier than crocs, but they look smarter and have lasted really well.

NCnotmyusualone · 07/11/2021 08:47

Skechers or keen
