What would you knit with this yarn set?

Light is poor - sorry. It's a fading selection of 100% cotton yarn. Each skein is 95m and there are 9 skeins. Stormy colours - love them but not sure what to knit with them! I can knit at a fairly basic level - cannot knit in the round. Any ideas?? Please?! Thank you for crafters

Have you looked a Ravelry for the yarn type and seen other projects made with it?

SoupDragon · 06/11/2021 16:14

I'd go for some kind of wrap that shows off the gradient (although I crochet rather than knit so can't offer any specific ideas!)

I'm just perusing Raveley now for free patterns... So I should search for yarn type first??! Great idea!

Something like this? And if you can knit on straights you can knit in the round. In many cases it's easier, give it a go.

You can specify yarn weight on ravelry. My first thought was a lacy shawl, some laces are very simple, but you could also do a gorgeous hat/scarf/gloves set.

Clothing I can wear is ambitious for me Grin more of a cushion cover/ patchwork throw level. But a scarf sounds very good - a basic Lacey one perhaps? And hat if I have enough left over ? I like this one attached but fading from light to dark?

You don’t need to stick to the specific yarn when looking for patterns on Ravelry. Just lookup the yarn on there, see what wright/ gauge it is & can use any pattern that knits to that gauge.
I’ve been knitting for over sixty years but still find it far easier to knit flat rather than in the round, especially for garments. The work just gets too big & cumbersome as it progresses.

Darklane · 06/11/2021 16:54

Weight/ gauge I meant.

Thank you Darklane - I bet over 60 years you have made beautiful things 😍

I've done this scarf in a few different yarns and sizes....go a little bigger for your needles than recommended and it stays beautifully soft

Zig Zag Shawl

Thanks - will do! Looking forward to a cosy scarf now!

A patterned blanket or throw for the settee.
