i thought towels should be washed with other things

i have only towels left in the basket but now i am reading that towels should be washed on their own?
is that right?

I wash towels with tea towels and cleaning cloths - I do them separately because I do them at 60-90 degrees but plenty of others will wash them in with a normal wash.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 06/11/2021 09:11

I just bung them in with everything else. The only things I was separately is bedding because it fills the machine and bath and toilet mats because they go on a higher wash

I wash towels tea towels and cleaning cloths together it makes up a full load I wash them at 60 where as clothes I wash at 40 which I separate to white/ light colour and dark/bright do bedding separately at 60

It depends on how long it's been since the towels have been on a 60 wash, and what else needs washing.
It's fine to put them on a mixed load but I wouldn't put a heavy bath sheet in with a load of only very lightweight items.

I don’t wash the rats bedding with the tea towels, otherwise anything goes

I had to read this twice Grin

I used to wash the guinea-pigs' indoor fleeces in one load ( they were in a bedding bag to keep any stray hay away from the machine) a full load is quite light as they don't hold water ...then a cleaning cycle after .

Anyway , towels . Mine are white , I do a hot wash with DD manky white socks . Balance is ok as its not one heavy item in a mixed load

I separate because we have a separate small room for the machine and with us 4 lots of the same type of clothes pile up anyway.
I separate by colour and/or dirt type.

Underwear and towels get washed separately, because it’s ‘body’ dirt. Trousers and socks together - that’s outside and - for socks, floor dirt.
Kitchen cloths on their own too.
Having said that - if it’s a small load or I need something, I will mix and no one suffers!

Towels go in a whites wash here, usually at 60, but that’s because unlike a lot of MNers, I don’t wash them every time they’ve been in contact with human skin. They get done when I think it’s about time, which could be a lot more than is often considered ‘hygienic’ here.

I wash towels, bedding and tea towels separately at 60 degrees.

Everything else is washed at 30.

Towels should be washed on the hottest wash possible, as they're very prone to harbouring bacteria.

Best plan is to do a towel wash at 90 degrees once a week. According to my washing machine repair a boil wash is also very good for keeping your machine in good order (as is using powder instead of liquid or capsules)
