How do you do Sainsbury’s deliveries?

I had my first home delivery from a supermarket tonight and I’ve been very excited about it all. I think I did it wrong somehow though.

When the man came he knocked on the door and he had a stack of four plastic Sainsbury’s boxes then all the food is ordered was loose inside. So I quickly pulled all the food out of the boxes and just dumped it in the hallway in piles. The delivery man laughed and said that he’d never seen that unpacking technique before.

Are you supposed to keep the boxes or something? Carry them in and unpack them properly while delivery man just waits there? I don’t understand. I thought there would be bags and it threw me.

We carry the crates into the kitchen ourselves and empty onto the kitchen counters. The driver will be getting the second two crates out of the van whilst we empty the first two, and then will wait at the door whilst we empty the second two. We don’t mess about, so as not to keep him/her waiting too long, but it only takes a couple of minutes. Then we put the stuff away properly after he/she has gone.

Tesco is exactly the same round here - no problem with us taking the crates into the kitchen to empty.

@Haudyourwheesht I personally find that sort of comment overfamiliar and intrusive from people that I don't know. Perhaps I should have said that I wouldn't have liked him commenting in that way, and that I would find it a bit off.

Another one with ikea blue bags at the ready.

hopeishere · 05/11/2021 22:26

I'm a floor dumper too. Some of it I try and fire / slide down the floor towards the kitchen.

Pre covid they brought them into the kitchen for me.

sohypnotic · 05/11/2021 22:27

Take the crate into the kitchen and unpack as fast as possible. Done this worth deliveries from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys with no issue.

@megletthesecond

I like to try and throw the toilet rolls onto the 1st landing from the front door

😃

sofiathe2nd · 05/11/2021 22:35

We take the crates through and empty them onto counters. On our last delivery the driver left without his crates so I guess we now have some of our own?!

@2020isnotbehaving my gran cant bend to unpack and the Sainsbury's driver bags her shopping for her from the crates into her own bags

Thought we were the only ones... ditto nappies. Mostly they just fall back down and thwack us

I'd give them back when you have your next delivery.

I use Ocado. It comes in carrier bags. I return them the next week and they refund me the cost of the bags.

SinoohXaenaHide · 05/11/2021 22:43

I have a few plastic folding crates like these ones - they are a lot easier to transfer things into than bags. Its easy to empty a Sainsbury's crate into my crate at the front door, then while I am loading crate #2 DH and DC are unloading crate #1 in the kitchen and by the time I have started loading crate #3, crate #1 is empty and returned to me and thus eventually everything is unloaded.

YoungGiftedPlump · 05/11/2021 22:54

Ikea blue bags- Morrisons

Lunaduckdrop · 05/11/2021 22:58

Cardboard boxes.

TSSDNCOP · 05/11/2021 22:58

He comes to my kitchen door!

ChangingStates · 05/11/2021 22:59

I do sainsburys- I take the crates into the kitchen one at a time and unload onto the counters.

tara66 · 05/11/2021 23:24

I throw an old rug down outside the door and everything goes on that then pull the rug through to kitchen! (quicker than using own bags or boxes - whether all items are delivered loose or in bags).

RhubarbCustardy · 05/11/2021 23:27

I test lift it first, if its too heavy then I take a few things out first, like say 4 cartons or tins etc and once its light enough I carry the crate through, dump all on the kitchen sides. My driver puts the ctprates inside the doorway. They're not allowed to take crates into the house anymore.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 05/11/2021 23:31

I dump across the floor and then sort it once the driver is gone. I have plenty of time, the driver is against the clock. I put fridge freezer stuff away and the rest can be there for hours as I do in dribs and drabs as I need to pace my energy.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/11/2021 23:36

We bring the crates to the kitchen and dump everything on the table and counters. Usually there’s not much of a wait for the driver because he (occasionally she) is bringing the next crates from the van.

That said, we had a delivery the other day and it was just me and for some reason I unpacked the first crate onto the hall floor. The driver asked if I had created an assault course for myself. 🤣

BurntO · 05/11/2021 23:38

I Chuck it all on the floor.

Last week I was in a rush so I literally grabbed the crates and upturned them. That made the driver laugh

Ikeameatballs · 05/11/2021 23:38

We take the crates through to the kitchen and unpack super quick there, just putting it all on the counters not in the cupboards, then crates back to the driver.

BananaPB · 05/11/2021 23:46

I've been having deliveries for 10+ years and use your technique. None of the companies have ever commented.

Nonbio46 · 06/11/2021 00:09

I usually use my empty washing baskets to put the shopping in while it’s at the door. It works great for me.

PickAChew · 06/11/2021 00:13

After using them for years, I've given up. On them. I have a terrible back and weak hands and it takes me over 10 minutes to lob the stuff from their crates to my baskets ansmf ove an hour for me to put it away then I'm broken for the rest of the day.

PickAChew · 06/11/2021 00:13

And over an hour
