Help have I damaged DD's hearing?

NC, regular user.

Very upset. Picked 2 year old DD up from grandma's today and as it's on the way home thought we would swing by the village park and see if we could see fireworks being set off by families. Was expecting little shop bought ones, not loud. Saw a family set some off stopped to watch and they were so so LOUD! It was obviously shop bought but the sound was louder than anything I imagined. I was horrified. Covered DD's ears. Then decided to leave, but they were still going off and I couldn't cover her ears and leave. I saw that everyone else's toddler's had earguards on. I feel awful, and scared. I can't believe I was so stupid.

Don't know what I'm asking really - what do you think? Has anything like this ever happened to you? Was it ok? Have I damaged her hearing? What can I do? She seems fine, responding to my questions, but I can still feel my ears ringing and feel sick.

I'm sure she is absolutely fine. Please stop worrying.

A one off incident like this is not likely to cause long term damage. Hearing loss generally comes from prolonged noise exposure.
I wouldn't be worried if I were you.

Sorry that's happened but no one here can say if your Lo's hearing is damaged, op.
It doesn't sound like you were there for very long so that is a good sign.
It's been a while since I had toddlers but I'd see if the health visitor can arrange a hearing test to put your mind at rest.

It's terrible that fireworks are allowed to be so noisy.

Ear guards weren’t a thing until relatively recently. I was taken to fireworks as a child and many people were there with young kids and AFAIK we’re all fine Smile

@KissedintheDark that's a good idea I'll contact them tomorrow.

Thanks for everyone's replies.
