No Spend November

Anyone else want to join?

I have recently started using Starling bank as I wanted to keep a closer eye on my spending, and it's horrendousBlush I waste so much money on frivolities that I really really don't need. I usually set aside £80 a month for fun spends, and usually end up going over it, but this month I have chucked it straight into my savings instead

SO, this month I have set myself a no spend challenge

  • no takeaways
  • no new clothes/shoes
  • no online shopping or going shopping at the weekend like I usually do which ends up with me spending a ridiculous amount
  • no new make-up, only using up stuff I already have lots of

I'm looking forward to the challenge and think it's going to be really satisfying, and then I'm hoping to carry it forward and continue with reining it in

I wish I could but I moved house a week ago and I’m leaking money everywhere !!!

I am in! I set myself this task as we waste so much money. On paper, we should have a decent amount left at the end of the month but we are often left with nothing (and nothing really to show for it!).
We do have DDs birthday this weekend so have had to spend for that, and 2 meals out that have been already planned. My rules are:

  • no new clothes for me or the kids
  • no unneccessary items bought on the weekly shop (usual culprits are tubs of christmas chocolates/cakes/sweets)
  • no Amazon purhchases (this will hurt with Black Friday coming up! )
  • no takeaways/fast food purchases

Luckily I am super organised and have done most of the Christmas shopping so don't have that to contend with! Good luck!

@Paranoidandroidmarvin oh no I feel your pain! Sometimes you might as well just set fire to your money insteadGrin

@usernotfound0000 thank you and good luck too! Things like birthdays are understandable, and I think I might allow myself maybe one meal out or something, just not 10 tonnes of crap that I usually buyGrin. I'm jealous of you being sorted for Christmas already, I haven't even started that yet! But I have been selling lots on Ebay recently and put that straight into a pot for present purchasing, so hopefully won't feel it too much

Well I made it through my first weekend of no takeaway and no shopping. Thought it was going to be really difficult but it was actually fine and I felt so much better for it!

But I have had a huge repair bill for my car so now I feel like I saved money for nothingGrin

Well done! I'm also doing ok. So far managed no online shopping and haven't made random supermarket purchases like I normally do! Although we have booked our summer holiday for last year, so like you, feel that it has been for nothing!! But I will keep going.
