Creepiest sales technique you’ve experienced?

Yesterday, I was wondering where the line between slightly too pushy a sales technique and actually a bit creepy lies. Back at university (now at least 20 years ago), there were suddenly a whole bunch of new energy suppliers so they kept coming round to try to get us to sign up. There was one lady who just wouldn’t stop and kept saying “I thinking of you, you see” with this very pointed emphasis on you. She was probably told to do that but I still shudder a bit when I think of it (perhaps this is the idea of someone who never met me telling me that she’s thinking of me).

About a decade ago, my street became more desirable and there was a massive increase in estate agents. One wrote to us with a full on mock up of a “for sale” flier with pictures of our house (a three bedroom terrace, it isn’t meant to be a stealth boast). I know that they probably did this for a bunch of houses but it massively creeped me out at the time.

Then of course there is the dreaded MLM pushy sales technique. No proper friends do this (thank God) but I have had randoms contacting me with “fantastic business opportunities” on Twitter / LinkedIn.
