Women who are expected to diet for their men

Did anyone see the article in the Daily Fail yesterday? A number of women talking about how their partners expect them to diet and then (of course) Samantha Brick saying it is perfectly ok for them to do this and her husband dictates what she should eat and drink (herbal 'slimming' tea is one such item!). However if you look closely at the photograph, her husband 's shirt is straining at his stomach! Oh I forgot, it is ok for men to be overweight.....

Honestly don't get me started on this shite. Women have to stay thin, dye our hair, wear make up and shave our body hair off. Not only that we have to have brilliant careers, but also be earth mothers.

The longer I can keep my daughter away from all this the better.

Nyxs · 05/11/2021 07:30

While I am sure this does happen. I would have thought that most men like this do actually obsess over their own bodies as well. It's shit behaviour wethwr the man is fat or thin.

However, when it comes to Samantha Brick, I don't believe a word that comes out of her mouth or, even his. I fully believe she would say he dictates what she eats, just to earn some money even if it's not true. And that he would happily go along with it for the same reason.

Oh god, is Samantha Brick still banging on? I remember articles of hers from a few years back. Her husband is rather portly from what I remember, so not really in a position to criticise. Her articles are always written to provoke, like when she said other women don't like her because she's so beautiful, when she's on the normal scale of attractive. Just ignore her.

vampirethriller · 05/11/2021 07:36

Two of my exes expected me to stay very thin and diet if I was getting "big." I was never anything over size 8. I thought it was normal for years because that's what my mother had told me too- women should be skinny or men won't want them.

WinterFirTree · 05/11/2021 07:36

I know several men who expect such things. Once I asked one of them when he was drunk why he was such an arse to his wife (he keeps hitting on me and everyone else in a dress) and he said the truth 'It's because she is better than me but I keep her down so she doesn't realise it'.
In vino veritas and all that.

oneglassandpuzzled · 05/11/2021 07:38

Oh is Samantha back! Goodie. I could do with a laugh—we have been hit by COVID.

Yourdeadtome · 05/11/2021 07:39

My father was like this too, my mother obsessed over her weight, would starve herself.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/11/2021 07:41

Samantha Brick can get fucked.

Mybalconyiscracking · 05/11/2021 07:42

Just googled Samantha Brick, bless her!
Does she really think that the reason she’s disliked is because she’s too beautiful?

DillonPanthersTexas · 05/11/2021 07:42

Samantha Brick is wheeled out to write click bait articles, I very much doubt she believes half the bollocks she spouts.

Oh I forgot, it is ok for men to be overweight.....

Except for the numerous 'my DP is really fat how do I get him to lose weight' threads on here.

Tell your exs to get lost! I'm a size 12 v happy with it. I'd be unwell if I was a size 8
Heatherjayne1972 · 05/11/2021 09:54

Uh nope
The only person who decides what I’m eating is me
I think I’d ditch anyone who thought otherwise

FOJN · 05/11/2021 09:58

Samantha Brick makes a living out of being controversial. I wouldn't take her seriously or think she believes what she says.

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2021 10:04

I would get stay in a relationship with someone like that.

Siriisatwat · 05/11/2021 10:04

Oh christ is Samantha Brick still around.

When she was saying she was “too beautiful”, I expected to look her up and see someone like Cindy Crawford, not a totally average looking woman who you would look twice at (not being a cow, i’m one of those women too and woul never say I was too beautiful because it’s not true).

My ex husband was like that. Thing is, he was obese himself.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2021 10:26

Somebody wrote a book about this not so long ago. I heard about her on Woman's Hour

[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YD75R17/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Women don't owe you pretty]] by Florence Given. She was talking about her frustration and anger about the expectations on women these days and excessive levels of grooming, weight etc.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 05/11/2021 21:52

@WinterFirTree did you tell her?!

I've never been with someone who explicitly told me to be in certain shape but have been in one where there was an implied standard

BruiserWoods · 05/11/2021 21:54

Whats the point being gorgeous if you cant finish all the cake Samantha?

cuttlefishgame · 05/11/2021 22:04
