So I had my baby 4 months ago (also have a 3 year old) and really need to get back to work for financial reasons. Didn't get mat pay this time round. I only want to go back part time though. I'm a primary school teacher with 15 years experience in schools. I've recently had two interviews with headteachers for potential cover work which would be great (less general class responsibility). Both headteachers were enthusiastic to get me in for an interview and I didn't feel that either interview went badly. Seemed positive. The first school I didn't hear back from at all despite me sending a polite email a few days later to enquire. Then the headteacher of the second school said he'd be able to find me something part time and would contact me later in the day to discuss it. When he did, he said he had spoken with the finance manager and there's no budget. Did he not know this beforehand? Was this the real reason I wonder?
I'm feeling a bit down hearted at the moment about it all. It's not easy getting back out there after having a baby. Plus, I was at my last school for 10 years so I've been out of job hunting for a while. I didn't get mat leave money either this time as I left my last school last summer. They wanted me to do more days than I was able to with no other option but to leave.
Supply could be a option but only pre booked work as I would need to arrange childrecare with notice. I currently do private tutoring but the money is unpredictable each month. I would like to apply for more permanent, part time positions but I'm not sure if schools will be put off by the grade I'm on (m6) as maybe they just want cheaper options?
Need some encouragement please. Feeling despondent.
