My sleep is so bad now

I have a bad sleep nearly every night and wake up literally every 2 hours and have problems getting back to sleep. Then I'm tired all day. Doctor said to keep a diary for 2 weeks then refer to the sleep clinic. Anyone else going through this. I have tried so much to sleep and nothings working I'm.at.my wits end.

What's your diet like? Do you drink alcohol? Caffeine? Get much exercise?

Aquamarine1029 · 05/11/2021 01:11

Peri-menopause?

Vivana · 05/11/2021 20:43

Peri here. I wake about 5, get up at 6. Work is stressful and im now in bed since 7:45. Nodding off but fighting it by coming here!

I'm 40 and think I must be in peri because my sleep is terrible. I fall asleep easily. But wake two hrs later and just can't get back asleep. Or on the rare occasion that I do sleep longer, ds with asd wakes me on one of his nightly wanders and then I just can't sleep at all after that. I've started taking piriton which really does help but it's ridiculous.

I have the same problem. The best things I’ve found are: not drinking any caffeine after about 1pm. Get sleepy meditation on Amazon music or a non stimulating documentary on radio 4. I was very conscious of waking others by playing these at 2am but I’m past it now, everyone else sleeps like a log on my house, the slightest twitch wakes me up so R4 at 2am it it!

Also the Dirty Three album Ocean Songs.

if you google "sleep hygiene" -- how perfectly do you follow those ideas?

Aquamarine1029 · 05/11/2021 22:43

Get HRT. It's a lifesaver.

Robertwars · 06/11/2021 08:43

Google cognitive shuffling - it tricks your brain into thinking in the way it does just before you fall asleep- has helped me so much with getting back to sleep

Also suffering peri insomnia. I wasn't keen on going for HRT for various reasons so I'm trying magnesium glycinate after someone recommended it. I don't want to tempt fate, but I think it's starting to make a difference: no waking up at 3 am all this week. Might be worth a go.
