Tooth removed - feels like there's another one coming through - can this be possible?

Hi - got a back tooth removed over a week ago. Tonight I was feeling at the gap and there is a bit of my gum that's still not covered over and I can feel a tooth coming through.

Is this possible in an adult well over 50?

Thanks for any advice.

Did your wisdoms ever come through? I'd have expected the dentist to see anything on an X-ray, though.

Perhaps more likely to be a tooth fragment that needs to work it's way out.

I thought the very back one was my wisdom tooth (the tooth that was taken out is right next to the back one) do you think it might be my wisdom tooth? That would be good if it was

Ah, when I had my wisdom teeth out, the dentist said that small bits may still come out of the hole. I can't remember why, or what they were.

I had a wisdom tooth out 2 weeks ago and for a few days this week felt something sharp and uncomfortable poking from the gum. I pulled it out and it was a white lump/shard. No idea what it was but the gum has healed properly now. It wasn't anywhere near as big as a tooth though, more a really substantial splinter.

Thanks it sounds like it might be a splinter then - I'd have thought the dentist would have made sure all the tooth was out.

It could be a wisdom tooth - my lower back wisdoms are compacted and cosy in my gums. Occasionally one peeps out and gives me hell before covering back over again. I'd of thought you'd be aware of your wisdoms though (as in the dentist telling you). Hmm

I've got this. I had a wisdom tooth out months ago and now have a fragment of something poking thru my gum. Apparently it's common after extraction, google it. I keep meaning to phone the dentist but haven't got round to it.
