M&S vs JL Christmas adverts (lighthearted)

Is it a coincidence that both retailers came out with their Christmas adverts on the same day?!?
Following the embarrassing withdrawal of JL home insurance advert last month, it's interesting to see how they approached the Christmas 🎄 one.
I like that it's not hours long, and it does have that heartwarming feel. Still my favourite one of theirs has to be the one with the baby dragon 🐉.
The M&S one I feel that I have seen it before, its fun and lighthearted, but its all about the clothes and I'm missing the warm and fuzzy feeling that I am after.
Eagerly anticipating other retailers adverts!!!!

Just seen the JL one and really liked it. Just heartwarming really.

The M&S one I saw was all about the food, and I thought they managed not to make it warm and rewatchable (which the no one is). They always seem to get things a bit wrong.

For the M&S food just seems so odd having a pig wandering around the food hall. I know that there is the Aldi carrot but this just felt odd - the food is already cooked, not about to b we bought.

Bagadverts · 04/11/2021 22:27

Sorry the food for Aldo is already cooked

The M&S advert I saw was the lady dancing. It was set up like a musical.

Yes - I think there are two.

I noticed Dawn French's clumsy fairy, was happy not to lead Tom Holland's Percy Pig past the pigs in blankets as he ran around the food hall. 🤣

Young Borg Queen meets lad and doesn't get discovered by government was weird.

The idea of Percy pig near pigs in blankets made me laugh out loud.

Don’t like either of the M&S ones. I agree that Dawn French Fairy should have taken Percy Pig down the meat aisle!

@UnitedRoad I love the M and S one from 2003

Ooh I love the M&S clothing ad, the pig one was a bit of a shoehorn.

I can’t forgive JL after the insurance ad, although I did shed a tear at the alien. There isn’t anything sinister about it, strikes me as a similar story to the snowman.

Meh,
Waiting for the other supermarkets ads.

WhoCaresNotMe · 06/11/2021 12:40

I would have liked the M&S one to have given Percy a stripey blanket to wear and had him gazing at the ham section. I haven't seen the clothes one. Apparently there are 8 different ones featuring Percy pig so a new one each week I guess

John Lewis one was a bit boring, my favourite JL one was years ago when the family went through different ages.

Out of the two I preferred M&S

WhoCaresNotMe · 06/11/2021 12:45

The JL "generations' ad was from 2011 and was not a Christmas one, I just looked so best xmas one was penguins one
