My periods have all but stopped - I’m 30

Definitely not pregnant, for various reasons I’ve never had penetrative sex !

I used to get period every 3-4 weeks, last about 12 days very heavy and painful - was admitted to gynae a lot for a while for morphine with suspected endometriosis and adhesions on my bowels .

I’ve had a couple periods this year but very long gaps, they’re very light - ie I don’t need a pad anymore, its more like blood stained discharge . No pain anymore . No PMT . Went 90 days no period then COVID jab and ten days of light bleeding then nothing since . GP said covid jabs well known for causing weird periods .

GP said if it didn’t sort out soon she would start me on medication to induce a proper bleed and get me in for an ultrasound, as concerned about endometrial thickness she said - have since changed surgery abs they’ve said to give it another three months to see if it settles by itself .

I’ve got a pre existing PCOS diagnosis although they didn’t see cysts on scans, just that hormones were all out of normal ranges.

No family history of early menopause that I know of .

Would you push for a gynae referral or just see what happens in the next few months?

I am B12 anaemic, level in May was 57 but GP said NHS don’t treat B12 anymore and to buy OTC tablets .

Hi @noperiods,
I’d push for a gynae referral if I were you - I have various issues myself and at 30 are peri-menopausal so it does happen unfortunately. I’ve also had some awful experiences with the medical profession and issues like you describe so do feel confident enough to push push push and advocate for yourself. You deserve to know what’s happening with your body. Xx

I have the same issue at 27. I've been diagnosed with polyps and endometriosis. Push as much as you can to be referred to a specialist

Yes push!

And GPs don't treat B12 deficiency?? I'd better tell mine to stop injecting me with it then. Get a second opinion on that too.

Thanks, I’ll give GP surgery a ring and see if there’s anything they can do . I remember my last GP saying it could cause endometrial cancer if left too long so a bit concerned that I’ve hardly had any bleeding for almost a year now .

They said seemingly they’ve discovered tablets work better than injections but won’t prescribe as can buy them off Amazon . I did wonder - my mum has pernicious anaemia as does her mum, I’m permanently exhausted !

What's your BMI? Are you underweight?

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 04/11/2021 14:16

Have they tested your iron/ferritin levels? It could be something as simple as a deficiency in that. (The range is very vast so you could still be deficient for you even though it doesn't flag up on your blood test iyswim).

@MandUs

What's your BMI? Are you underweight?
No, the total opposite (very overweight).

Spoke to sexual health nurse who said that I need to go GP who can refer to gynaecology and prescribe northisterone, she said also need an ultrasound to check endometrial thickness or something and probably blood tests . Longer term she said probably need laparoscopy or something . I have got period pain now which might just be a coincidence !
