Is this behaviour normal for a 2 year old?

Hi,

My son is 2 years old and my concerned about whether his behaviour is normal or not? His not talking at all yet but makes lots of sounds (hums to postman pat theme tune/ music he likes) he wont sit near me or on my lap for a story just wanders about. He doesn't like holding my hand and doesn't really cuddle. He loves going for walks but throws an almighty tantrum if you try and take him a different way and is obsessed with playing with door handles. He always wants to be doing something and hates waiting if we are out he just wants to be on the move. We've just been to the Dr's and was screaming and throwing himself about the whole time we were waiting in the waiting room (only calmed down when in the Dr's room as he could walk around). He is impossible to take to a restaurant unless he is interested in eating if not he will scream till we leave! He does sit still at home and play with his toys but does love running about. He sleeps through the night so no problems there. He has been referred to SALT. Is this normal 2 year old behaviour? Any advice on how to handle these tantrums would be great! Thank you

My DS didn't talk at 2, now he's coming up 3 in the new year he's doing brilliant. We have SALT too and I've found them great.

Mine is like a whirlwind, I'll get a cuddle when he's tired!

My DS is stubborn at 2, and I now don't try my luck at going another way on a walk, I let him take the lead and pick my battles!

Regarding the waiting I think it's just a case of learning he has to wait.
I realised if I bent down to his level and told him why we were waiting and I'd wait down by him until it was our turn to go. Over time I haven't needed to do this and he'll be patient. And I think this would help in drs but tbh it's a boring wait for them so I would take something to occupy.

If you want to go out and eat, do it at quieter times first, I normally go for first sittings at lunch etc. Take colour books, stickers etc. He needs occupied.
