Free boiler upgrade for those on benefits. Government scheme is a scam

So we get child benefit and Dh gets industrial injuries benefit. Both on the list.

Very difficult to find companies that do it, but eventually a guy comes round and does a survey.

Result of survey is they will replace our Vailant with a shit replacement and charge £2000 for for which we pay £800. Dh looked at the boiler they suggested online. It costs £900 and we could get someone to fit if for much cheaper.

But it’s shit. It’s a shit alternative. How many people are being sucked into this?

Do you need any other work done? Eg cavity wall or loft insulation? We had ours done under this scheme last year. The company weren't great, but the individual fitter was good. We paid about £400 (I can't remember exactly) to have a Worcester Bosch boiler fully installed that is currently selling for around £1300 online. It took most of a day for the installation so that would have added a fair bit to the cost. However I know that the boiler deal was only available to people who were also having other energy saving work done - we had cavity wall insulation installed. I think quite a few companies are like that so I realise it's hard to find one who'll just do the boiler bit.

I got free insulation from the scheme but my dd was on dla at the time, child benefit wasn't sufficient

We didn’t need anything else doing. We just wanted the upgraded boiler. Which wasn’t an upgrade😣
