Do you have a overhang of skin after a C-section?

Has it gotten any lesser with time?

I'm only 8 days postpartum so early days but made the mistake of looking at my side profile in the mirror today after the shower and feel a bit miserable about what I've been left with. I have a very distinct 'apron' that hangs over the scar, not helped I'm sure by the fact I already had a small amount of loose skin after my previous pregnancy.

I’m also 8 days PP and did not have a c section. Definitely still have a skin overhang. Fingers crossed it will go.

Yes, but I was fat to begin with so that didn’t help.

My first c section overhang took about 9 months to pretty much disappear.. not so easy with the second…

saraclara · 03/11/2021 15:50

I don't remember the early days, but certainly if there ever was an overhang (it was a long time ago!) it didn't last

irregularegular · 03/11/2021 15:51

No I don't. But I don't think I did to start of with either. Very neat job!

MissyB1 · 03/11/2021 15:53

Not after my first, slightly after my second (but did disappear), definitely after my third - seems to be permanent as he’s 13 now!! And I am very slim so it’s not about weight.

WellTidy · 03/11/2021 15:56

Gosh - at 8 days post partum (I had EMCS both times), I had a massive overhang and huge bloating. In fact looked bloated for months. But when I got down to the weight I was before pregnancy, the overhang was much, much smaller.

BettyfromBristol · 03/11/2021 15:56

Yes, been there decades now. I'm slim but don't really notice it or care. I might feel differently if I wanted to wear a bikini though.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/11/2021 15:58

7yrs later and still have it. I could lose 20lbs, it might go away a bit then. My friend has a large one and is getting a TT soon to get rid

bothjetplanes · 03/11/2021 15:58

Yes, but it went eventually. Can't remember how long, but definitely disappeared.

MuchTooTired · 03/11/2021 16:00

3.5 years on, mine is still there. 8 days PP I still looked full term with a singleton though, and my stomach skin is all papery feeling. I describe it like elastic that’s been stretched too much and has lost its stretch - it’s not coming back for me.

BrunoJenkins · 03/11/2021 16:03

I've had 2 c-sections and yes I do. I'm proud of my "battle scars" though, & it's not really that noticeable unless I'm naked.

ShowOfHands · 03/11/2021 16:03

I'm 14 years and 10 years post caesareans. I am fit, healthy, do a LOT of exercise and have a 6 pack.

My lower abdomen will always have an overhang. I had two emcs, one of them a crash CS and it's left its mark. It's nothing like it was after 8 days but it's never going to go without surgery.

Freshprincess · 03/11/2021 16:12

I do, and I’m 18 years pp Grin
I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach, thanks to a 3st pregnancy weight gain, which hangs over.

It actually looks better when I’m a bit heavier.

I haven’t tried that hard to get rid of it tbf.

Passanotherjaffacake · 03/11/2021 16:14

Yes, still have mine after 2.5 years and absolutely no change! You can fit about three fingers up there. Alternate between feeling sad about it and being too busy running after my toddler. Another reason to hope DH never leaves!
Good luck OP, hope you are one of the lucky ones where it disappears!

JadeSeahorse · 03/11/2021 16:17

Unfortunately yes!

However, mine is from 27 years ago when there was no info really as to how to reduce/exercise it etc. You were just expected to accept it!

I am a slim 10/12 and exercise twice daily. It has certainly reduced quite considerably but still there although I am well used to it now and just dress accordingly.

I could afford a tummy tuck but don’t see the point of risking a g.a. for vanity reasons. ☹️

Chanel05 · 03/11/2021 16:17

Yes. My daughter is nearly 14 months and I'm 8 stone.

Mjjbgfessrgb · 03/11/2021 16:18

I do, I try to ignore it.

GTAlogic · 03/11/2021 16:20

Dc1 was born by emcs 10 years ago and I still have the overhang. I'm obese at the moment but when I was a healthy weight it was still there, albeit smaller.

UbicornsFunkyTop3 · 03/11/2021 16:23

You can fit about three fingers up there.

I discovered the same today whilst in the shower.

I have gingerly and blindly been running a shower head over the area for the past week not wanting to see it (squeamish) or touch it with my hands just incase I irritated the wound.

Imagine my horror when I did have a gentle feel around and my fingers disappeared inside somewhere. For a minute I thought the wound had opened and I was prodding inside my stomach Shock

Shot out of the shower to check in the mirror, low and behold a perfectly intact scar underneath a big overhang.

Alas, I suppose that's better than a reopened wound.

The joys of motherhood eh.

Yep I have this, no c sections, two big babies and it's just loose skin hanging with some extra padding. My youngest baby is 2 ... years old now.
Mabelface · 03/11/2021 16:37

Yup! 28 and 22 years later. I'm slimmish and have been thinner and fatter and it doesn't change. Not arsed though, it's hidden under my clothes and it's an indicator of the amazing things my body has done. 2 pregnancies, one a triplet one, so unsurprising really! .

irregularegular · 03/11/2021 17:34

Sometimes it is nothing to do with weight, exercise etc. My very slim, fit sister has a definite overhang from caesareans years ago. It was never going to shift, it was just the way it was done.

userwhatever01 · 03/11/2021 17:59

Yes - two CSs, last one ten years ago. The over hang is there, I almost got rid of it a few years ago by paleo diet, but I was quite insanely skinny.

Now I don’t care. Wear a bikini with big bottoms
