Do you have a overhang of skin after a C-section?

Has it gotten any lesser with time?

I'm only 8 days postpartum so early days but made the mistake of looking at my side profile in the mirror today after the shower and feel a bit miserable about what I've been left with. I have a very distinct 'apron' that hangs over the scar, not helped I'm sure by the fact I already had a small amount of loose skin after my previous pregnancy.
@CurlyMango I’m having full abdominoplasty with muscle repair. So essentially they will make an incision hip to hip, repair my muscles that have separated, remove the excess skin and scar tissue (the surgeon estimates it to be about 7lb in weight) then create me a new belly button and sew me back up. I’ll be in hospital for two nights with drains and a catheter etc. Will also need a couple of weeks off work. It feels big but I’m mentally very ready. I am very active and my excess skin is a real pain and discomfort to me.
I had this done a few months ago and I can't tell you the relief of not carting all that gross skin about every day. My recovery was not all plain sailing but I wouldn't change it for anything. Best money I've ever spent. Good luck with yours, sure it'll go well.

Just don’t look at it just now 🙈 I had one almost 3 months ago and it looks a million times better now than it did at 8 days. I know people say they have this ‘shelf’ but as I lose more and more weight it’s look a lot better. I think my belly is just the normal post baby belly now

Had an ectopic pregnancy when I was about 30. My tummy was perfect prior to this. After they stitched me up I had an overhang which never went away no matter what I did. Luckily it is below the bikini line so I could conceal it.
Now I am older it looks a lot worse. I wear big pants now

I didn’t have one after my first c section but the wound healed a bit wonky (which I was actually fine with, I’m not a nude model after all). Had a second c section and he “fixed” the scar, and yes, it’s neater but I now have an overhang. 9 years on, it’s not going anywhere but it’s not toooo bad, just a little bump/roll. Not the end of the world.

makelovenotpetrol · 04/11/2021 06:57

I briefly had one but now have a flat stomach. I've had 2 sections. 8 days on isn't a great time to look

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar this is really encouraging, thank you! I can’t imagine a life currently where I’m not having to think for/care for my excess skin every day. I know recovery will be tough but it will improve the quality of my life long term I’m hoping. Mine is substantial though and requires longer surgery than the ‘average’ tummy tuck. I am
four years post my last baby though and have lost weight, exercised regularly, I’m super muscly now apart from that area - the surgeon has confirmed that in my case I won’t get rid of it without surgery.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 04/11/2021 07:26

Same - mine is more than hip to hip, it goes round onto my back and it started quite high. 5.5 pounds was removed. Don't underestimate it - I totally did. You'll be really tired for maybe a month. The first few days are quite difficult in terms of movement. Drink tons of water, walk little and often, eat a ton of fruit and take laxatives!

Zebrasandfairytales · 04/11/2021 07:50

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar thank you so so much that is really helpful! Laxatives already in my Amazon shopping basket Wink

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 04/11/2021 08:20

There are Facebook groups you can join (you might know this already) to ask questions and talk to people at the same stage as you. I joined one called something like 'honest tummy tuck recovery' which was really helpful when I was worrying about something in the middle of the night.

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar fab - thank you. I will sign up. See you on the other side!
