Hello,

I picked up one of the IKEA kids kitchens in the bargain basement and plan to "do it up" for my DS for Xmas.

( I will post this in the Xmas thread too )

How would I go about decorating it? I have no idea where to start 🙂

I will post a photo of what I think looks fab.

Thank you in advance

Hmm - stick on vinyl tiles on the splash back? Battery powered led strip lights under the top cupboard/shelf. Shopping list blackboard on one side wall. Hooks for oven gloves, tea towel, etc on the other.

The one in the pic is probably spray-painted - you can use Rustoleum tins. You need to take it all apart if it's already made and then prep with a primer then the colour. The handles and sink can be done in something like gold, silver or rose gold. In the pic they've added a piece of wood behind the sink - if you're putting it against the wall you don't really need that but if you do get the wood you can get a nice decal to put on it (like a tile effect).

I speak from experience!!!

The secret to painting vinyl / laminate / shiny IKEA furniture is to prime it first. The best primer you can get for this is Zinisser Bulls Eye 123 primer- it's £17 in screw fix and after priming you can use pretty much any paint on top although a eggshell or gloss will be harder wearing. It takes a bit of time but finish will be really nice.
The other option you have is to use sticky back plastic / self adhesive wallpaper - trickier to apply and finish maybe not as good as painting but probably cheaper as you can get the self adhesive on Amazon for around £10.

Fablon would be a good option instead of painting.
