Neighbours - Grrrrrr !

So we have ordered something on Amazon , which says would be delivered on Wednesday .
Popped out for an hour this morning , came home to see it has been delivered to a neighbour ( card through the door )
Go to collect , their caravan isn't on the drive , they've gone on bloody holiday !
Who would take in a parcel if your about to go away ! Grrrr .

Did you want them to postpone their holiday so you got your parcel? You should have stayed in if it was urgently needed

MaybeAMoaner · 02/11/2021 20:16

No need to be rude @OhMyfanwy

If your neighbour was going away they should have refused delivery/ pointed the delivery driver to another neighbour.

So I agree with you that they were wrong for doing that OP

Ilikewinter · 02/11/2021 20:18

Well the parcel came early so OP wouldnt be waiting in for it. Yes the neighbour should have said no.

OhMyfanwy · 02/11/2021 20:39

I wasn't @MaybeAMoaner, I was asking want they wanted them to do? I'd rather have a package delivered and safe than have the faff of of it being sent back and to arrange another delivery
If the neighbours were kind enough to take it in I'd be grateful
Most parcels are tracked now as you don't sign for them so they should know when it was being delivered
I had one due 5/11 it came a week ago

SixQuidGames · 02/11/2021 20:44

I have the opposite. My neighbour orders stuff then goes on holiday so I get daily messages asking me to get parcels off their doorstep. FFS, why did you order knowing you’d be away?! It’s not even as if they know we’d definitely be there either.

Did you actually read the OP?
AutumnWreath · 02/11/2021 21:05

@OhMyfanwy
Thank you for your kind concerns.
FYI my parcel stayed delivery Wednesday 3 November . Today is Tuesday 2 November.
If I was planning to go away in my caravan and a delivery driver asked me to take in a parcel, I think I might think it might be a better idea to decline than to leave a parcel that my neighbour could need sooner rather than later.
I hope your day improves because something has obviously rattled your cage today . As you were.

Of course YANBU OP!
In the summer hols we were in your neighbours' position, but because we're not completely lacking in common sense, we declined to take it. Postie just left it with a different neighbour.

AutumnWreath · 02/11/2021 22:08

We have a ' safe place ' for them to leave items as well .

Andwander · 02/11/2021 22:14

Oh,that is annoying.maybe your neighbour is only away for 2 days or so.I would certainly not take in a parcel,if I go on holiday that day.

AutumnWreath · 02/11/2021 22:28

@Andwander
I'm hoping so.

What a ridiculous comment! Op probably expected them to decline the parcel on the grounds that they wouldn't be there to hand it over? Like any reasonable person would 🤷🏻‍♀️
FairFuming · 02/11/2021 22:34

So you get on with this neighbour? It seems a bit passive aggressive to take in a parcel.when you know you will be leaving very soon

Hairyfriend · 02/11/2021 22:38

Without knowing further details- I can't comment.

Do you have their number to call/text and ask them where they left your parcel?

IMO- delivery drivers can be very determined and persistent! Your neighbours might have felt pressured to take your parcel- without thinking they were going away.

Wolfiefan · 02/11/2021 22:39

I’m going to hope they’ve taken the caravan to get serviced or put it in storage.
If you’re going on holiday you don’t take in a parcel. That’s just daft!!

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/11/2021 22:41

Have a good look around your house and next door - just because the card states the parcel was left with a neighbour doesn't mean it was. Could be in a bin, behind something, etc.

AutumnWreath · 03/11/2021 18:58

As an update : Saw neighbours adult daughter going into her parents house ( see doesn t live there )
Showed her the card from the delivery people , so she had a look around , and gave me my parcel !
She didn't know how long they will be away for as apparently neither do they.

I took a neighbours huge package in one xmas, she came back from work but didn't knock on, after a while I knocked on thinking maybe delivery driver not put card through. She said oh can't take it til kids in bed else they will see it. Well those kids must have had a good sleep as was a week later when I'm in middle of Xmas eve celebrations with family before she came, used me as a storage unit! Wouldn't mind but I'm in little cottage, front door straight into living room then squeezing past a huge box ....... I did consider covering the box with a tablecloth and using it🤣

Wolfiefan · 03/11/2021 20:00

Glad you got it!!

That's right. You just continue to deliberately obstinate.
plinkplinkfizzer · 03/11/2021 22:43

You are lucky they were kind enough to take it in , I wouldn't .
Some years ago we were getting ready to go away for a week when a delivery for neighbour turned up , I took it in then wrote a note for neighbour saying we were going away " But here's the key . " Posted the note next door , all good .
Came home the following week to find they had not locked the door . So I had been away all week with my door unlocked . Never really bothered taking in parcels anywhere I live now .
