Driving licence expires on Sunday. I had a letter about this in August and needed to both renew my licence and change my name. It’s not possible to complete change of name online so I submitted a paper form. I sent off the form 10 weeks ago and have heard nothing.
I know you can still drive if you have a licence renewal application in process BUT I don’t know whether change of name and renewal are separate processes. The form I filled in was for change of name because it wouldn’t let me renew my licence without doing that as I needed to do both. So are they doing the change of name and then I will have to do something extra to start the renewal process?
I have emailed the DVLA and got back a standard response that doesn’t answer my question.
They said their processing time is 6-10 weeks and I can call if it’s gone beyond this time which it has. But their helpline is constantly unavailable no matter what time of day it is and online chat is also unavailable.
I get that they have a massive backlog and that the licence renewal will take the time it takes but I need someone to confirm I have an application in process or I’m going to be unable to drive from Sunday. I’ve been trying to sort this for 3 weeks and getting nowhere.
What do I do?!
