Booking holidays with foreign travel companies

As a uk citizen are you able to book a holiday wth a company based abroad e.g. America to go on one of their holidays to another country e.g. Vietnam or China

I was looking around for tour operators for a holiday for next year and a couple of the searchers took me to operators that are based abroad.

It just got me wondering if it was ok or would things get really complicated and I couldn't find an answer when I searched.

Has anyone done it and was everything ok?

It's possible but you won't get ABTA/ATOL protection. And if it's a package they will probably only have flights available from where they are based.

Some of the holidays I was looking at were tours, so flights weren't included.
It's a good point about the travel protection.
