Women and children subjected to horrific attack & sentence not enough

Am in tears reading about the horrific case of a mum with young children out for a walk this May and a vile, violent man attacked them & attempted to rape the mother & her 4 year old daughter.

I am so sad and angry on their behalf.

If I am reading the report correctly he receieved a 24 year extended sentence. comprising 16 years in custody followed by an eight-year licence period.

Williams must serve at least two-thirds of the custodial period in prison before applying for parole but it will be for the Parole Board to determine if he is safe to be released at that point.

So he could be out in 10 1/2 years. He's 43 now.For that sort of crime I want him behind bars for the full 24 years! In fact, it's debatable whether he should ever be allowed to walk the streets again.

I never thought I had the mindset of 'lock em up and throw away the key' but this reminded me so much of Lin Russell and her daughters. Mothers should be able to take their kids for a walk without fear of being raped, beaten or killed.

I really hope all the family in this case are getting the support they deserve, my heart breaks for what this evil man has put them through.

Fucking hell Sad that's disgusting. I sincerely hope the parole board don't let him out early. The sentence is about just if he has to serve the full lot anything less is a disgrace.

I don't think he should ever be released. Rape in my eyes is akin to murder.
He's will have obviously killed their sprit. That poor mum and her children are going to be traumatised for life. No matter how much counseling they're given they're never going to be the same again.
I hope the other inmates rip his disgusting cock off.

Oh those poor people, and such a young child! That really is completely disgusting in every way and I hope the man stays in for as long as poss and has an awful time inside

It would be extremely unorthodox for a whole life tariff to apply to this sort of sentence.

I can't imagine what the victims of this crime went through, and still go through now. However his sentence is at the higher end of the scale for the offences.

If we gave out whole life tariffs for attempted rapes, then what do we do for even more serious offences?

It's not much comfort but he'll have a horrific life in prison.
Men whose wife and dc are alone whilst they serve time will find a way to harm him.

How that poor dc will recover is beyond thinking about.

I don't know @CorrBlimeyGG but am just sick of having the spectre of bastards like that hang over you when you go for a walk with your kids. I think they need serious sentences to deter them.

Maybe I am getting less liberal but that poor mum had to lie down looking at her 4 year old daughters face and attempt to comfort her as that animal attempted to rape her. I don't want to be in a country with him walking the streets in 11 years when he's 54.

If the safety of women and children was taken seriously in the UK, vile scum like that would never see the light of day again. No one as despicable as that can ever be rehabilitated. How could it possibly be guaranteed that he would never attempt something like this again?

I agree with this. I want women and children safe to walk the streets/parks, streets and parks we fucking pay for!

Prison sentences don’t work as a deterrent for this type of crime. He should be looked away for life because he is a treat to women and girls and as a punishment.

Whilst I'd gladly hang up this piece of human garbage by the gooleys and skin him alive, I do think that if the sentence for rape was akin to that of murder, then rapists would be far more likely to murder their victims.

One thing that strikes me every time is the price we are paying in terms of no mental health services, alcohol/drug services, insufficient police etc. This man wasn't fine and dandy then did this.

We need to prevent these crimes, not just punish after. Because after the family's life is ruined, it's too late.

I read about this yesterday. It's appalling! He also claims to not remember anything about that day so admitting his guilt is meaningless and no doubt only to earn automatic reduction in sentencing.

Despicable man. It's sickening that he can be back in society in little over a decade.

@rrhuth there are lots of people struggling with their mental health and alcohol/drug addiction- the vast vast majority don't commit vile crimes like this.

Of course I agree that there should be good mental health and addiction services but I think this disgusting individual would have always been a danger.

Society/the government/the police needs to take misogyny and VAWG seriously. Until this happens, there is no hope of any of these crimes being prevented.
