Random question. USA action heroes with chin dimple esp in past

Good evening.

I'm not asleep (obv!) and watching a film on TV called executive decision. It's tip top. Some terrorists have hijacked a plane and a group of men in (for some reason) a shed lined with black bin bags have to save them.

Star is Kurt Russell. He has a dimple chin and always has obv.

The thing I've been wondering for over 40 years... Is why do USA action/ romance leads esp in past often have a dimple or line in chin?

It was Kirk Douglas first and I saw them a lot. Clarke gable, Cary Grant, Robert mitchum etc (3 channels remember) and over the years there they were. Over and over in so many USA male leads.

Is it something seen then/ always by film studios as something women love? Does it look hard?

Have you never noticed Grin

I have genuinely wondered this for a looong time Grin

And superman. Think it's an attractive trait in America. Even romance novels by Americans always mention the male lead as having a chin dimple.

Even Buzz Lightyear

Which superman? Mine was Christopher reeve. Tried to remember.. thought yes. Checked. Mild but there.

Does the cartoon have it?

Googled old comics yep. There it is.

For me personally I don't really get it. And I'm talking USA film stars who are hard/ good looking roles not everyday men.

I wonder why it's a thing there.

It's not just a thing in the USA - Jude Law, Clive Owen, Henry Cavill, Ewan Macgregor, Patrick Stewart, Russell Crowe, Colin Firth...Laurence Olivier if you're looking for earlier this century...

Oh, so that’s why his face looks like that, because he’s (in his own mind) such an American hero. I only just put two and two together from this thread.

Random fact:- Cleft Chins are Mendelian Traits (inherited by one dominant gene or two recessive ones) found only in humans. They are caused when the two bones that form the lower jaw don’t fuse properly in utero. Sometimes they have a subtle vertical cleft, others are a stronger Y-shaped cleft (like an ant or grasshopper). They can spread further during adolescence and with changes to the jaw due to speech, stroke, dental problems, etc.

Could also be caused by too much spinach

I mean of course anyone can have it. It just seems to be such a thing in USA.

Other country actors having sometimes is not surprising!

Thinking about USA romantic/ action leads on rereading... There are a few things that are quite common that I'm ??? Now I come to think of it.

The chin thing though has been something noticed and wondered since a kid, glad to see not the only one!

I don't know why they are considered attractive...are they quite uncommon? I just checked my high school photo and 0/14 has an actual dimple...

When I see a dimple, like a true sporner, I wonder if they get blackheads at the bottom..
