Help! IKEA has let me down

I ordered a kitchen from IKEA recently and they took payment for all but the sink, and said they'd take payment for the sink this week once it's back in stock. Now they're saying they don't know when the sink will be back in stock. It's the Havsen 62x48 ceramic sink.

I feel very stuck as we've purchased the kitchen and it's ready to be installed. The builders are waiting. We can't get a sink elsewhere because it's a specific size, and even if we did find the right size, we can't get it because the worktop from IKEA is only compatible with the IKEA sink.

This is stressing me out so much. The kitchen planner allocated to me is utterly useless and doesn't reply half the time. She keeps telling me the Greenwich store has it in stock but I don't have a car and can't get there easily.

Is there any recourse for me? Anyone with insight into IKEA's stocking problems? Long shot but help! Thank you.

I'm guessing an alternative ikea sink is a no go for some reason? Have you already had the worktop cut to fit this specific sink?

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/11/2021 21:38

We had exactly the same thing—Havsen unavailable and whole project delayed.

I found one in the Reading store and drove there and bought it. The last one there.

Go through all the stores you can possibly get to in person and check availability.

I am going back for some other bits that they can’t get but which aren’t as vital.

Good luck!!

I’d have driven to Lille or elsewhere in northern France or Belgium to get if.

@oneglassandpuzzled oh gosh it might come to this. Thing is I don't drive so would have to get tube. It's a 90min journey. Is the sink very heavy? Why can't they just deliver it to me from that store sigh.

They have them in Bristol, Croydon, Gateshead, Greenwich, lakeside, Leeds and Milton keynes.

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/11/2021 21:43

It is heavy. You’d need a cab.

Haus1234 · 01/11/2021 21:44

You could take the tube there and get an Uber/taxi back?

Daughterpanic · 01/11/2021 21:45

Wow this isn't a good at all.

You've spent all this money and they can't deliver one too you????

I'm aghast!!?

Surely your a priority?

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/11/2021 21:45

I don’t understand it either. IKEA have been a nightmare. If I can get their kitchen stuff for them to install, why can’t they?!

The other two bits we need are almost incidental but I am half expecting to be told we now need a tower cabinet or something and to go back and find it myself. I suppose I could tie it to the roof of the car! 😳

Daughterpanic · 01/11/2021 21:46

She shouldn't need a cab or need to drive

Is ikea on tweets I'd be tweeting personally.

Clymene · 01/11/2021 21:46

There are companies (man with van type people) who will go to IKEA and collect stuff IKEA doesn't deliver.

Get one of them or a taxi. You can't take a sink on the tube Grin

trevthecat · 01/11/2021 21:46

Have you looked on ebay?

myheartskippedabeat · 01/11/2021 21:48

I've had a couple of IKEA disasters over the years I wouldn't buy anything from them ever again they're customer service is shocking and the stuff is cheap and nasty
I'd get a refund and start again

MrsFin · 01/11/2021 21:48

Can't the store you bought the kitchen get the sink from another store for you?

jellybean30 · 01/11/2021 21:48

I could do that. Sigh. Should I do that? Surely they'll get it back in stock before long? Does anyone have experience or insider intel on IKEA's supply issues?

OP posts:
EvilRingahBitch · 01/11/2021 21:48

I think if they know they've got one in Greenwich then they should bloody get it to you.

However if they won't and you're against the clock then in your situation I'd either borrow a strong friend/family member and go and get it, possibly using a taxi at the other end, or maybe get it delivered by the Greenwich store (?might be possible I'm sure I've bought stuff in store and then got it delivered in the past - and then raise hell to get them to refund the delivery charge), or hire a man with van (but expensive and less likely to get IKEA to refund the delivery cost that way).

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/11/2021 21:50

@MrsFin

It doesn’t work like that. You deal with a kind of centralised system that isn’t run out of a particular store.

It is…interesting. I think my husband may have a stroke if he has to speak to them again.

jellybean30 · 01/11/2021 21:51

That's a good idea - I can try to ring up the Greenwich IKEA directly tomorrow to get them to deliver? Though from experience you can't ring stores directly, but maybe that only applied to my local one (Edmonton). Oh I'm so cross about the whole thing.

I ordered custom fronts for IKEA cabinetry so can't start again unfortunately!

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/11/2021 21:53

It is a nice sink, though. If that makes you feel better. 😆

friskybivalves · 01/11/2021 21:54

Op are you nearer the Croydon store? There must be a MN-er who can help you out with this by going to pick it up in exchange for petrol money or time spent...

jellybean30 · 01/11/2021 21:54

I'm keen to sort it because I can't even book in templating for the worktop if I don't have the sink, and I'm worried they'll run out of the worktop next!!!

OP posts:
jellybean30 · 01/11/2021 21:54

I'm in north London. I think Greenwich is the nearest with stixk 😞

OP posts:
jellybean30 · 01/11/2021 21:55

Stock - sorry I'm so stressed out I can't even type

Justabouthangingthere · 01/11/2021 21:57
