My son was 10lbs 4 when he was born and everyone made out like he was absolutely huge never mind almost 15lbs 😬

SlamLikeAGuitar · 01/11/2021 18:15

I saw this earlier Shock
DC3 was my biggest…and the baby in that news article weighs almost double that Shock

He’s gorgeous but I can feel my cervix wincing in solidarity. I hope for her sake he’s a baby who likes the pram and the cot, not the sling

Eh, the sling gets ditched at 15lbs? Strange comment

Ouch! When my son was born, weaning advice was to start solids once the baby was 12 weeks old or weighed 12lb. That bairn would have been started off on mince and tatties Grin

TheCanyon · 01/11/2021 18:36

My youngest was almost that weight at a year old.

siegriedswaistcoat · 01/11/2021 19:10

I remember when baby George who is mentioned in that article as the second heaviest baby in the UK at 15 Ib 8 oz was born. His Mum said that unlike most newborns he did not really grow much in the weeks after his birth. I wonder if super big newborns level out a little and settle on whichever centile line is right for them. George would be eight now. I hope all of the babies mentioned are healthy and doing well.

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 19:14

I remember someone saying to me about my son that it was like missing the newborn stage as he was already the size of a 3 month old 🙄

antsinyourpanta · 01/11/2021 19:14

I'm pretty sure she also had a 10 month old, I imagine they will be mistaken for twins quite a lot!

SlamLikeAGuitar · 01/11/2021 20:00

@siegriedswaistcoat I’ve heard similar!
A friend of mine had a 10lb baby’s couple of weeks after I had my scrawny little 6lb DC2. While my DS was packing on weight at a pretty rapid rate in the early weeks, her baby was gaining at a much slower rate

siegriedswaistcoat · 01/11/2021 20:08

My 9Ib 8oz baby missed the memo. He gained weight really quickly. He weighed over 12 Ib by four weeks old. He ended up on the 25th centile by his two year check though. His older brother who weighed 6 Ib 2 oz at 6 weeks when he finally moved from his ventilator on to C PAP is over the 90th now. They all find their line in the end.

Bloody hell! My 2nd son (now 37!) was 10lb 13 born. I didn't have any more kids after that...........
