Getting used to your engagement ring?

Hi everyone

Just wondering when you started wearing your engagement ring, did it feel weird at first and how long did it take you to get used to it?

I have been wearing mine for 2 days and although it fits etc, it just feels weird for some reason :(

Maybe a week or two.

Similar to a new phone, you're ever so careful and conscious about it. Wait till you've caught it on something (like not just hair), and tugged it, forgotten its on before you've washed up, and then you'll be used to it.

I think it was a couple of weeks, but mine was a little too big, so I was constantly checking it hadn't fallen. Now it feels weird if it's off. Getting married soon so need to send it off for redipping, so expecting to panic every couple of days that it's gone.

Definitely! I don’t wear jewellery in general so it felt really odd. About a week I think. Don’t even notice I have it on nowadays.

Congratulations btw!

TulipsTwoLips · 01/11/2021 12:29

Ha, oh yes, I’d forgotten a few days of taking it off when I did the washing up! What a numpty! 😂

Still annoys me after 15 years.

GoodnightGrandma · 01/11/2021 12:30

I never really got used to it so I don’t wear it.

2tired2bewitty · 01/11/2021 12:31

Don’t remember my engagement ring causing issues, but I know for the first week or so after getting married (and therefore having two rings next to each other) I spent a lot of time wondering where that faint jingly sound was coming from Grin.

GiltEdges · 01/11/2021 12:36

Never. Hated wearing it. I’d never really worn jewellery by choice and much as I tried I just couldn’t get used to it. My engagement and wedding rings still live in their boxes in my wardrobe.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 01/11/2021 12:39

A week or 2, now it feels like part of me. Well, my wedding ring does, I don't wear my engagement ring often because i worry about damaging it!

girlmom21 · 01/11/2021 12:41

It didn't take too long. Maybe a couple of weeks!

Bluee1994 · 01/11/2021 13:01

Wow thanks, so glad i'm not the only one Grin can't wait for it to feel normal haha!!

@TulipsTwoLips thank you!!!

I've always worn rings so an engagement ring took no adjusting to. Mine doesn't have a massive stone or anything so it's never got caught, it also wasn't, at my insistence, massively expensive so I don't worry about it.

idontlikealdi · 01/11/2021 13:41

Congratulations!

It feels weird for a bit and then will feel weird if you have to take it off.

UniBallEye · 01/11/2021 13:51

The novelty factor was high for quite a while, I couldn't stop staring at it, even now 18 years later I still adore it and quite often have a little look at it.

I don't wear my rings all the time though, I never have. I only wear them when I'm out and about because I get a rash on my skin from water / soap under them, plus I can't sleep in any jewellery, I take rings and necklaces off.

Congratulations OP!

SirenSays · 01/11/2021 14:18

Congratulations 🥂 I never did. I absolutely adore my engagement ring but it's just not practical for me and I'm scared of losing it. So I only ever wear it on special occasions.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2021 17:03

I chose a fairly low key, flat ring with small stones because I don't have a monolithic solitaire kind of lifestyle Grin

nzborn · 01/11/2021 17:19

the first minute felt right

Bluee1994 · 02/11/2021 17:18

My finger ended up itchy with redness and bumps :( it is platinum. It started off with a feeling like itching under the skin but today it's gotten red and the small bumps have appeared! .. will leave it off for a few days
