Inspired by my other thread (if forks can ever be said to be inspiring) …

Who amongst us possesses a fish fork these days? And for those of us who do possess them, who actually bothers to use them?!

I am in the market for fish forks. Not totally sure why as have managed thus far without, but I feel by 45 I probably should own some.

I have fish forks.

Some years ago, I was in the market for new cutlery and my DH said he'd always wanted a canteen of silverware for "best". I agreed that the silver looked lovely but I have a problem with "best" because it feels somehow wasteful and I'm a one woman anti-waste campaign.
When I buy something new, I will obsessively research it before hand and silver-plated cutlery facts kept popping up. I found myself in love with some of the vintage canteens I found online.

So I bought one second hand from eBay, with no box. I got 250> pieces, including fish knives and fish forks for £80 delivered. We use it every day as our cutlery. We polish it only for best and just enjoy the patina the rest of the time. It goes through the dishwasher every night. Seriously.

We have used our fish cutlery twice but enjoyed fish often - usually weekly. They just don't really make it into circulation.

My grandmother was a real posho and she hated fish cutlery. She told me that it's the preserve of the middle class and that the "proper" way to eat fish is actually with two forks. So there you have it!

I’m tempted to have a look on eBay now for some vintage cutlery! Have you tried your grandmother’s “two forks” technique? I will next time I have fish!

I have cutlery for everything 😳 fish knives and forks mainly used for special fish meals rather than regular out of the freezer stuff. Fruit forks used when we chop up fruit for a snack and grapefruit spoons whenever i have one for breakfast 😁 i have soup spoons too but rarely bother, the butterknife and buttercurler only come out for posh dinners same with the cake slice and sporks. Steak knives whenever we have steak or sometimes for a pork chop too. I love a bit of cutlery i do.
I am also a sucker for gadgety things like my strawberry huller, pickle fork, bean shredder and cherry stoner, i have a two storey cutlery drawer 😂.

PeeAche · 01/11/2021 13:12

I just have 2 cutlery drawers. I honestly could do with a third. 🤣

I have never tried the two forks technique but if we all make a pact to try it together, I'm up for it.

The Two Forks Club.
