What is your average daily screen time usage on your phone??

Mine is just under 6 a hours a day and I'm disgusted. I think I'm actually addicted to my phone. I really want to spend less time on it but always find myself scrolling or googling something or when I can't get back to sleep going on social media and I hate it. Those 6 hours could be spent being so much more productive, or more present etc. I tried the time limit for using specific apps and I would just override the feature and continue using them. Does anyone have any tips?

Mine is about 4/4.5 at the minute. Some weeks its 3. But I find mine really bad too.
I have an Iwatch which actually helps me not use it as much as I see notifications on there and know then whether or not they need a response ASAP or not so I don't have to pick up my phone and get distracted.

My husband leaves his downstairs at bedtime which helps.

It also depends what I’m doing on my phone, if I’m ordering shopping, paying bills, sending emails etc I don’t find that to be an issue. Can you look at the breakdown of your usage. That will tell you if it’s useful stuff you’re doing or just browsing insta etc.

Bontanics · 01/11/2021 11:22

Mine looks ridiculous at about 10 hours per day but most of that is either podcasts, youtube with music or something on in the background whilst I'm at work.

Catcrazy83 · 01/11/2021 11:44

About 8 hours. Actively trying to reduce it. I put timer on mumsnet, alas here I am Blush

CurryLover55 · 01/11/2021 11:45

Mine has dropped this week but is still over 5 hours a day

LittleLottieChaos · 01/11/2021 12:17

Around 6 hours but I work from my phone (social media manager). I can’t wait to ditch it when my maternity leave starts. It makes you feel so much better... Honestly - I wouldn’t be on IG if I weren’t being paid to do it!

At 6pm I literally throw my phone across the room so I don’t touch it and enjoy my evening.

skyblueone · 01/11/2021 12:21

Last week I was isolating, usage was higher than ever before! I think it's about 4 hours on average. I'm making a conscious effort to spend less time on my phone.

NotMyCat · 01/11/2021 12:47

About 12hrs but that's music, using the calculator/google maps for work etc
I'm allowed on my phone at work as well so often pick it up and put it down

Mine's between 1.5 and 2, though I'm actively trying to reduce it even now. I used to ignore the time limits but I've turned strict. I have my phone set to 'downtime' between certain hours of the day, this means most apps are turned off so when I wake up I'm not bombarded with notifications until around 30-60 minutes later when the apps turn themselves back on. If I'm focussing on work, there are apps where you set a timer and then if you use your phone you 'kill a virtual tree'. It's enough of a motivator to leave the phone down but if you get an important call it's not the end of the world!

I do think a high screen time doesn't necessarily equal unproductively though. I like YouTube, but watch on the TV. If I watched on my phone, my screen time obviously would be higher. Also using Google Maps etc adds to screen time but it's not like you're scrolling through Instagram! Agree with PP about the content of the screen time that is potentially an issue, not the screen time itself.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 01/11/2021 15:51

Mines about 2, which seems a lot considering I work from 8-4 at school and can’t look at my mobile then.

BreatheAgain · 01/11/2021 17:42

This thread is just to boast, is it?Wink

Mine is much higher than that, most days, and I'm now ashamed to admit it, what with all the measly 6 hours or less smug posts!Blush

JudgementalCactus · 01/11/2021 17:49

Mine is 5h per day and I know i'm definitely addicted and hate it. But other than looking the phone in a cupboard and throwing away the key, I don't know how to tackle this :(

HumourReplacementTherapy · 01/11/2021 18:09

Ooh I'm feeling a lot better! I thought I was bad! 😂😂😂

Crankley · 01/11/2021 18:51

Zero. It's a PAYG, I last put money on it three years ago and last sent a text two months ago. It's usually to be found uncharged at the bottom of my bag.

PiesNotGuys · 01/11/2021 19:02

34 minutes average. I don’t use it that much. Doesn’t mean I’m not on screens though.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2021 07:27

A lot. Far too much time dossing on MN!
But the phone keeps tally of time when it's in the background too, and that is useful things like using it as a GPS. I use timers for housework too. It is as much what you're doing with it that matters as much as pure time on there.

Bagelsandbrie · 02/11/2021 07:28

I’ve turned my counter off. I don’t need shaming BlushGrin I know I’m on it far too much!!

BrickingIt44 · 02/11/2021 07:29

Some days it's 11 hours. I need help.
