Please recommend a UK 5 day break in October

DD and I go away for a "cultural" break in the October half term, usually 5 days. This year we went to Bath/Longleat and Did The Sights.
Where would you recommend for a break next year ? We will take the car so will be mobile, we like museums, National trust houses and stuff like boat trips. Not Devon/Cornwall as I prefer those areas in Spring.

The North East? Lots of English Heritage sights, Alnwick Castle, boat trips from Seahouses

@Rainallnight sounds ideal - where would you suggest as a decent base ?

You could either base yourself at the coast, lovely little towns like Alnmouth, or Seahouses (which is a bit more ‘seasides’, fish and chips etc). Or go inland and look at the lovely old Roman towns like Corbridge.
