How was your narcissistic son/daughter as a kid?

I recently read about narcissism and psychopathic traits in childhood and was wondering if, those of you who have an adult kid now with some of these characteristics, noticed some particular behavior or personality when they were younger. Hope it’s ok to ask, I’m really interested in this (also because of a family member who has this type of personality and has demonstrated lack of empathy from an early age)

I can’t speak for my own experience but I have an aunt who is a textbook narcissist. My DM (her DSis) has alway said that as a child her DSis was exceptionally arrogant, obnoxious, and had a complete lack of empathy for anyone (except to pets). My grandmother apparently used to reprimand her attitudes and behaviour to no avail, and despaired of her.

Today, my aunt (aged 80) is pretty much alone as she has alienated herself from all family and former friends. She hasn’t had a relationship since she was in her 40’s because she more or less made her partners’ lives miserable and they all left her one by one. She has tried dating since but she said the most nasty things about every single man she dated so I’d say they had a lucky escape.

It’s sad but who knows why she is like this. She is one of four siblings and while my DM has some of her tendencies to a much lesser degree, they are all nothing like her.

I don’t know if this is what you were meaning though?
